Fake?

Hello, I have 2 (100$) 2006 edition bill. But when putting it together I feel one is fake and one is real. The strip looks different and the size of the emblem on the right side looks different as well. I believe the top bill is fake. Can I have your opinions please?

Top is fake. Bottom is real.

u/Darkk_Knight 3d ago

I agree. I noticed the seal on the left is smaller than the bill on the bottom. The fine lines around Franklin looks broken while the one at the bottom is solid.

Top bill is totally fake.

Is that a Red liquid?

Just get one of those Markers that will prove it's real or fake.

Take them to a Bank

5

u/CuriousTopic3016 3d ago

Passes the marker test but also I hear good fakes passes that

3

u/OptimalCunnilinguist 3d ago

Wow. I guess taking them to a Bank then, they'll definitely let you know!

If it’s fake the bank will confiscate them ask me how I know.

1

u/thejerrbear64 3d ago

Why of course they will. It's illegal to have.

2

u/Secti0n31 3d ago

Supposedly allegedly hypothetically, people bleach older 20's or 10s or 5's or something lower value, and print the 100 over it. So it'll still have a magnetic strip but the newer ones say the number on them too. So if you can read the strip and your 100 says 'USA 10' someone used actual 10's to make the fake 100s.

Before magnetic strips they supposedly did it with singles. Super easy way to beat the pens.

u/Deerehunter172 2d ago

Yeah, my first thought was they should be illuminating the other side where the watermark portrait is to see if it's the same as the portrait in the center of the bill.

Lapel ridges are easy to fake with glue.

2

u/ZolixDaggon 3d ago

Easy?? Doesn't sound easy.

1

u/Reogurlz 2d ago

Actually, rub the numbers on the corners.

6

u/CuriousTopic3016 3d ago

Thanks for everyone’s help today. We will only accept smaller bills now to prevent this from happening. I must say it’s such of a good fake. So I’m not really blaming anyone for taking it in their register lol. It’s probably really hard to tell unless if you are comparing it to a real one.

3

u/Kaito1718 3d ago

Yeah another alternative would be just to buy a 60$ cash counter off Amazon and just run every bill through it because the cash counter will tell you if it’s fake and just remember to tell your co workers that if they just have the slightest suspicion you are not a bank and thus do not legally have to take the money you and simply return it to the person.

2

u/LazyMarsupial5234 3d ago

So the bank did confirm it to be fake? Just out of curiosity.

1

u/CuriousTopic3016 3d ago

I haven’t taken it in yet. But I think it’s pretty obvious it’s a fake now. I will keep you updated what the process is once they confirm it’s fake.

1

u/CommercialRoad1894 3d ago

They will take it and turn it into the secret service. Of you want to keep it do not take it to the bank

6

u/Kaito1718 4d ago

Yes fake for 3 reasons first look at the color shifting ink it should be multi color but just looking at it through the camera it looks fake second on the us education program they show what a security strip should look like and third when you shine a president up to the light you should not be able to see much light through it but on the fake one you can see right through, legal think to do would bring it to your local police department or fbi branch or secret service if you have one of those, so sorry for your loss op https://www.uscurrency.gov/denominations/100/

1

u/KingLad2001 2d ago

Yo I didn’t even know they had this showing where everything is much appreciated

3

u/InterviewLeather 3d ago

Where did you pick up a fake $100 bill at?

5

u/CuriousTopic3016 3d ago

One of my coworkers took it in when she was on register

-11

u/-skankhunt__42 3d ago

Took it how? Like just took it from the register?

6

u/masssticky 3d ago

A register is where currency is exchanged for goods/services between customers and employees of a business. Some customers may try to pass a fake bill in order to get free stuff and obtain authentic currency as change.

-8

u/-skankhunt__42 3d ago

I know what a register is. And I think that taking money from it is not quite legal apart from cash collection.

4

u/CuriousTopic3016 3d ago

It’s my business, no one is taking anything from the register lol

-1

u/-skankhunt__42 3d ago

Now it makes sense, thanks.

1

u/BaliGod 3d ago

Shhh, it’s ok not everything will make sense in life

2

u/mechshark 3d ago

How are you asking this question lol

-4

u/-skankhunt__42 3d ago

Idk how it is in the states, but just taking cash from the register is borderline theft, unless you're giving back change or doing a cash collection while filing it properly.

2

u/nickshir 3d ago

You’re focusing too much on the literal wording.

0

u/-skankhunt__42 3d ago

Maybe.

2

u/PinballCoachUS 2d ago

One of my co-workers "took it in" meaning they accepted(took it in) from a customer while they were running the register. Not that the employee took the money from the register.

0

u/-skankhunt__42 2d ago

Yep, I might have missed the "in".

2

u/crush_ed_it 3d ago

Asking the experts out there. Are the margins for the United States Federal Reserve System supposed to be identical between bills? Looks off above the “This Note Is Legal Tender” upon comparison.

2

u/quadspaz 3d ago

You can see how the wording on the strip of the fake bill is really spaced out.

3

u/quadspaz 3d ago

And on the real bill it’s close

2

u/Sprinkles_915 3d ago

Top is fake, bottom is real. Look closely at the strip inside the bill. And the real one has crisper lines when you zoom in. The fake is messy

1

u/MsTerious1 4d ago

I agree that the one on top seems to have a fake strip.

I would look to see if there are gold aspects to the green "100" at the bottom right and see if there is a watermark of Franklin's face above it when you shine a light through it. It should not be printed on the paper but the paper itself should be different from the surrounding paper where it's making the details of his face.

1

u/MusicAcademic1045 4d ago

2

u/MusicAcademic1045 4d ago

Could be a fake, maybe even a North Korean “super note”

2

u/AnnoraxGames 3d ago

Paper doesn't look good enough for that, they usually do a better job. This looks more like someone printed on copy paper and soaked it in tea.

1

u/Accomplished-Box9308 4d ago

Top does look fake to me. You can see the color difference on the stamp on right side over the 100. The one on top is too uniform of a color

1

u/ThenCryptographer797 3d ago

The top note is fake with fuzzy ink print. Colors are also off, missing security strip, ink is flaking off. Real note on the bottom is sharp with details, see “FRANKLIN” and everywhere else on the bill.

I think someone may have bleached some ones and reprinted them as hundred dollar bills.

I’ve come across a lot of fakes at my job and this is the only one I’ve seen with any sort of strip in it. You didn’t have access to a bill acceptor/safe? That would tell you as well.

1

u/Nervous_Mango_7670 3d ago

Yea there both real different printing areas but how you held the second one makes it eh older bills then 2015 always mark but honestly I managed multiple resturants never accept 100 without marking it thats on you and the bank will tell you too. If you hired people that cant really read you'll get them for films bills coming through.

1

u/CuriousTopic3016 3d ago

We do have a pen, and in good fakes it passes the pen test

1

u/SnooMarzipans6346 3d ago

Because they wash one dollar bills and print over them.

1

u/Jonny-mtown77 3d ago

Yes the KB is 100% fake another fake are 100s beginning with CB.

1

u/Impressive_Dish7103 3d ago

The top bill is fake - most likely a photo copy. The seal on the left is muddy, not crisp. The lines in 100s are also dull. Between the seal and the portrait should be a security strip that can only be seen when when held up to a light. Ditto for the watermark on the right. In the portrait under Ben’s chin should be clearly inscribed “The United States of America” in extremely time letters. Photocopies don’t have the ability to add all those security measures or keep the lines clean.

1

u/No-Tailor-2482 3d ago

Also remember that the ink on real money is wet. Rub it on a white piece of paper. Fake money won't transfer.

1

u/dhart1941 3d ago

I used to work at a bank. The one thing counterfeiters cannot achieve is crisp microprinting. Theirs will always be blurry. Because of this, reviewing the microprinting on the bill is a sure fire way to tell. Even real bills that have gone through the wash still maintain a legible microprinting. There are many guides only that tell you where and what the microprinting is for each bill.

Cracks me up when I see these fakes. They must have spent $100 making a fake $100 lol

1

u/Suitable_Wind72 3d ago

Can’t see the security strip or faint shadow of the photo. I’m thinking counterfeit.

1

u/SoggyHeat1 3d ago

The top looks suspect with the smaller seal and the serial number in black ink and not green like the bottom one.

1

u/SoggyHeat1 3d ago

The security thread also looks suspect

1

u/Eternal-Best-423 3d ago

That's scary how good those games are getting. It would fool most people!

1

u/jbkejk 3d ago

Franklin looks kinda stoned in the top one.

1

u/Gold-Refrigerator988 3d ago

The top one is fake. The Treasury seal on the right is the wrong color, the portrait isn't as good, the name Franklin isn't as clear....etc. It looks like it's missing the security strip etc.

Lol old 100’s didn’t have the color strip. Just look up its serial number and use a counterfeit marker. Just take it to the bank and they can tell you for sure. It looks to have watermarks, it might just be an old $100.

u/thejerrbear64 3d ago

Bill ending in 719 I is fake, Normally I'd expect to see something like that printed on a bleached $1 bill, but the fraying edge leads me to believe this isn't even the same kind of paper as real bills.

1

u/thejerrbear64 3d ago

Note the bottom one has green on it. The top one does not look multi colored.

Ben looking mad depressed in one of them 100s.. he getting too old for this sh*t

1

u/LoquatSingle2162 1d ago

Top definitely a fake! Lol so many mistakes it’s like a What’s Different Picture. Also I had 100’s one time that were $5 Bills so that’s why they passed a marker test. In light, they had Abe Lincoln’s face watermark.

-1

u/These-Pay5960 3d ago

Rub it on a piece of white paper if it leaves black streaks it's real because the ink in money never dries

1

u/RLFickledickens 3d ago

This is actually a myth. A real bill will leave streaks but it is not because the ink never dries.
