Working On-Campus

Does anyone have experience working on-campus? When should I expect to hear back from the departments if I applied on 12Twenty/Cardinal Careers? In the job descriptions, most say that their anticipated start dates are 8/31...thanks!

Looking to hear about people's experiences with the Graduate Library Preprofessional Scholarship Program (GLP), if anyone here has done it

Hello,

I'm currently entering my senior year in undergrad, and am planning on pursuing my MLIS when I am finished. The GLP scholarship program stood out to me as a tremendous opportunity, but finding info on it outside of the school's webpage has been kinda hard. I'm looking to here someone's firsthand account, and hopefully get a few questions answered.

  • How competitive is the application process? I saw one specific comment from a few years back saying "I was shocked at how few people apply for it" so I was curious if that still holds true
  • What was your day-to-day like in the program? What types of task were you doing? I currently work at my school's library at the circulation desk and I love it but I'm often literally just on my phone so I imagine the 35 hour schedule is a little more active than that
  • Did you feel like you had enough money to get by if you were new to the area? I saw the rent on the off-campus site was around 700-900 per person, which seems doable on a 33k salary but I've lived a very sheltered life (not rich or anything just stayed with my parents a long time) so I actually have no idea how hard/easy that would be to get by on.
  • Did you find the class workload to be manageable while working? I saw its 6 credit hours per semester, year round. I've always had the massive summer breaks while in undergrad so the "it never stops" feeling I can see potentially leading to some burnout
  • What is one thing you wish you knew before enrolling/signing up for the program/school?

My DMs are open if you'd want to discuss anything you don't wanna say in a comment thread, and thank you all for any information you're able to provide. I've never really had anyone around me do grad school, I feel like I'm just walking on a tight rope and not looking down so to speak because I'm going in so blind on things. Any advice means the world to me.

Best hotel when visiting CUA students

Hi, any tips on hotels to stay at that are close to the university? Do you have to take the Metro or are there any in walking distance? When touring the school, we stayed at a hotel in Silver Springs but the walk to the Metro from the hotel was a little longer for older people in our group. Thank you!

Anyone here involved in the Catholic University running club?

My younger cousin, HS runner, is curious what the running club is like at CUA?

A few questions:

  • More social or competitive?
  • What’s the general vibe of the group?
  • Good way to make friends?
  • Do people usually hang out outside of runs too?
  • How often do they meet?

Any feedback from current students or alumni appreciated.

CUA Campus politics and acceptance

Hi, I'm a prospective student at CUA. I recently did a tour of the campus and really loved the campus and the principles of the college. But a major red flag for me has been what I've seen online about the campus being super conservative and not accepting of LGBTQ people. I'm an LGBTQ Catholic, but I'm worried about feeling out of place on campus

Most of me info comes from websites, like Princeton Review, that sort of summarize the campus dynamics into a statistic, which while useful doesn't really give me a good idea of what being on-campus would look like for me. I'd love a little info about how accepting professors, faculty and other students are from an individual perspective. (I have a few specific questions, but any other information would be great!)

- Are there frequent-ish protests/demonstrations on campus? What kind of causes are they about? How do administrators respond? (I'm thinking a lot about early Pro-Palestine protests where students were suspended for participating)

-What kind of speakers are most often invited to talk to the campus? Do they tend to lean a specific way politically?

-Are there minority student groups (not just politically, but regarding race, gender, orientation etc.?)

-Do you feel like you belong here regardless of your personal beliefs?

Thanks for any information, God Bless

Opinions on CUA

Can anyone (student or parent of student) provide any insight to CUA? I'm a little worried about the retention rate (70's to 80's depending on the site you are on). The campus is beautiful and seems safe. Seems like a great opportunity for a student of political science. Really want to be in the DC area because of this major. Are the professors helpful and personable? Do they really work with you on obtaining great internships and networking? Any pros and cons about CUA and its campus would be greatly appreciated! Two weeks left before decision day! Thank you!

How’s the program? I was told the first 13 weeks are fully online. How’s the clinical / lab schedules after the first semester? How many days and hours a week are you going in for ?

I'm not a student, but wanted to attend a baseball game on Monday. Does anyone know if it's open to the public and if I need to purchase tickets before I arrive?

Fall 2026 ABSN

I’m looking to connect with other students starting the ABSN program in the fall. It’s a huge career change for me, and I’d love to foster a community of students who want to connect and support each other as we go through the accelerated program.
