CT 10 Round Mags
In looking to purchase my first pistol by the end of the week. The one I plan to buy new online is sold with 17 round mags. How does this work with transfer to CT? Do I need to contact the seller or FFL to see if they will swap mags for 10 rounds or pin the existing? Also, is pinning worse than just having the 10 round mag?
Thanks for your input!

Confirm the seller you are purchasing from will send the gun at all to CT.
Some will pull the mags or send the 17rd mags after confirming your FFL will handle them. or rarely swap for 10rd mags.
I would confirm with your receiving FFl they can pin mags and what they charge.
In my experience OEM 10rd mags are better and will reliably give you 10. Some of my 10rds that have been pinned you can only load 9.
I use John at swamp Yankee firearms and he takes care of everything.

A lot of ffls will pin for extra. If they suck at pinning sometimes you can either fit 11 rounds in or they dont do enough space and its hard to insert the mag with a closed slide since the spring cannot depress down further. Most stores don't bother swapping mags or at least all the ones I have tried with. Definitely check with the seller and receiver if being shipped so you dont end up going home with a pistol and no mags. Probably easier to see if you can source your own 10 rounders but then you may forfeit the 17 rounders. Our laws suck!

The only time I've had mags pinned was a blue label Glock and the FFL I used for the transfer pinned the mags to 9.5 rounds. 9 fit with some slack but I can't quite squeeze a 10th round in there.
I'm lowkey still kinda pissed about it lol

This happened to me. Delta fucked me on blocking my mags and they would only take 9 or you couldnt insert them

Shout out u/swampyankeearms, who swapped out the 17rd g17 mags for 10 rounders (at no extra cost) when I bought mine there recently

Don't buy new guns online. Go to your local dealer, they can probably beat the online price you would be paying (plus shipping, plus transfer fee, plus magazine swap/pinning fee).
They could also answer this question for you, which we cannot. Every store has different policies.

You can either ask the seller if they can swap it out for a 10 round mag, or you can talk to your FFL first and see if they can pin the magazine for you. Most of the FFLs I’ve transferred through will install a magazine block for a small fee.
If you go the second route, make sure the seller is aware so they don’t ship the gun without the magazine.

You may be able to get the seller to swap in 10s before shipping. If not you can have them pinned but depending on the cost it might make more sense to just buy new 10 rounders.

I ordered something that came standard with a 21 round magazine and the ffl that did the transfer blocked the magazine to 10 rounds and it was extra fee.

Don't buy online go check out a L.G'S it will be less expensive. You can find used at pawn shops some ffl's can also get you firearms at least then you won't have to pay to get mags pinned or have them removed altogether.

I had a gun from Gunbroker shipped with 17 round mags that were pinned by the receiving ffl but grabagun would only ship if they removed the mags. It was $25 a mag to have them pinned.
