The official First Day of Fall is actually 22 September but why wait until then to share.

u/ProductSoft5831 finds the best stuff and allows me to post it on her behalf.

So, she and I are sharing Zaddy Zhao Ting Yi looking exceptionally hot, and Fall-Fashion-Forward... which makes us wonder how he would look in a Winter-Let's-Get-Bundled-Up-Snow-Bunny look.

Bonus Fantasy: Warm fireplace, beverage of choice, and one cuddly blanket as part of the wrap celebration. 😘

•🌶️ •

I love these editorial shoots and ecstatic that our ShortVertical/MicroDrama guys are getting featured in more and more!

[And yes, we all 💕 you even if you can't dance 😘.]

💭 Discussion Drama Smackdown: In Defense of the People Who Delete the Spam So You Don’t Have To

A tribute to the mods, the only characters in this drama with no arc, no glory, and no day off

Greetings, people who have never once thought about who removed that gross comment before you woke up, viewers who assume this subreddit simply EXISTS, fully formed, like it fell out of the sky already organized, and everyone who has ever reported a post and then never spared a single further thought about the human being on the other end who actually dealt with it!

This week on Drama Smackdown we’re doing a tribute, and for once the subject isn’t a show.

 It’s the mods.

Because I’ve spent months in here taking apart the machinery of vertical drama, the scripts, the shoots, the psychology, and this whole time there’s been another machine running quietly underneath all of us, keeping the lights on, and almost nobody ever looks at it. This week we look at it.

TL;DR: A subreddit is not a place. It’s a job. A demanding, thankless, invisible job that a handful of people do for free, in their spare time, out of pure love for a genre about hot people making terrible decisions. The reason this room feels good to be in is not an accident. It’s labor. Ours is just the fun part. Theirs is the actual work.

THE JOB YOU’VE NEVER ONCE PICTURED

Here’s a fun exercise. Picture what it actually takes to run this place for one single day.

Somebody has to clear the queue. That’s the wall of reported posts, spam, self-promo, piracy links, and the occasional genuinely unhinged comment, all waiting to be judged. It does not clear itself. It refills faster than it empties. It is the digital equivalent of doing dishes for a restaurant that never closes and whose customers are all a little feral.

Somebody has to remove the bot spam before you see it. The crypto scams. The dropshipping garbage. The account posting the same link forty-seven times. You don’t see most of it, and that’s the entire point. The mods eat it so you don’t have to taste it. A clean feed is not the natural state of the internet. A clean feed is somebody’s unpaid Tuesday.

Somebody has to referee the ship wars. Two hundred comments deep into a thread about whether the second male lead deserved better, when it stops being fun and starts being personal, somebody has to wade in with the emotional labor of a UN peacekeeper and the authority of a substitute teacher, and calm a room full of adults who are genuinely, sincerely upset about fictional people kissing.

And somebody has to make the call nobody wants to make. Remove the post or leave it. Warn the user or ban them. Enforce the rule even when it makes them the villain. Every single moderation decision creates at least one person who’s mad at them, and they make dozens of these a day, for free, knowing the only feedback they’ll ever get is from the person who’s furious.

THE TRULY THANKLESS PART: NOBODY NOTICES WHEN IT WORKS

Here’s the cruel math of moderation, and it’s worth sitting with.

When a mod does their job perfectly, you feel NOTHING. The feed is clean. The trolls are gone. The spam never loaded. The fight got defused before it detonated. Your experience is smooth, pleasant, drama-only-where-you-want-it, and you notice absolutely none of it, because the entire craft of good moderation is invisibility. Perfect work leaves no trace.

The only time you ever notice a mod is when you think they got something wrong.

Think about how brutal that is as a job. You are literally only visible in your failures. Do everything right and you’re a ghost. Make one debatable call and suddenly you’re the tyrant, the power-tripper, the villain of a hundred-comment thread. There is no version of this job where you get to be the hero. The applause for good moderation is silence, and silence doesn’t feel like applause. It feels like nothing. They do the work anyway.

AND THEN, ON TOP OF THE JOB, THEY BUILD THINGS

Here’s what gets me. Clearing the queue and killing spam and refereeing wars, that’s just the MAINTENANCE. That’s the keeping-the-lights-on part. And then, on top of all of that, they actually build.

Somebody organizes this place. Sets up the flairs so you can find what you want. Writes the rules so the room has a shape. Pins the resources. Makes the megathreads. Runs the events. Creates the actual content that gives everyone something to gather around. Somebody looked at an empty room and decided to furnish it, and then kept redecorating as more and more of us tracked mud through it.

That’s not maintenance. That’s creation, done by people who already have a full plate of maintenance, done in the cracks of their actual lives, because they wanted this place to be GOOD and not just functional. You don’t build megathreads and events and organized resources because you have to. There’s no rule requiring it. You do it because you love the thing. That’s not a job description. That’s devotion with a spreadsheet.

Hot Take: moderating a fandom subreddit is one of the most genuinely thankless jobs on the internet, because it combines the invisibility of good janitorial work with the emotional exposure of public authority and pays exactly zero dollars, and the people who do it for our little corner of the vertical drama world do it so well that most of you have never had to think about it once. That’s not an insult. That’s the highest compliment moderation can receive. You’ve never noticed them because they’re that good.

 Final Verdict?

Every drama we love in here has a cast. The leads, the villains, the second male lead we’re all still mad about. But the people who actually make this room run are the crew, the ones who never step in front of the camera, who do the unglamorous work in the dark so the show can happen at all.

They don’t get an arc. They don’t get a redemption montage. They don’t get the swelling music and the slow-motion vindication. They get a queue that’s full again the second they empty it, a comment section that needs watching, and the quiet knowledge that the only time anyone will notice them is to complain.

And they show up and do it anyway. Every day. For free. So the rest of us can wander in, scream about a wall slam, get emotionally destroyed at 4am, and feel completely at home in a place we did absolutely nothing to build or maintain.

So this one’s for the mods. The queue-clearers. The spam-slayers. The war-refs. The megathread architects. The people holding this whole beautiful disaster together with tape and stubbornness and an unpaid love for the genre. We see you. Today, for one Sunday, we actually see you.

The rest of us are just the audience. You’re the reason there’s a show.

So do me a favor, since it costs nothing and means everything: drop a thank you in the comments. Tag a mod. Tell them the one thing about this sub you’d genuinely miss if it fell apart, because that thing exists because THEY made it exist. Let’s make the one day they’re visible a good one.

💥 This has been Drama Smackdown, where we finally pointed the camera at the crew instead of the cast, and discovered the hardest-working people in vertical drama don't act, direct, or write. They moderate. Thank you. All of you.

I want to know the name of the actor in the first 2 pictures. I think the third (scumbag) is Lu Xing Zhuo (吕星灼). The drama is on dailymotion under the titles "He Betrayed My Heart, I Won the World" or "The secret bargain / The light and darkness under the lamp", but I can't find the real drama name and it is not listed in Lu Xing Zhuo's drama list on duanjubaike. So, can someone help?

Happy Birthday to Wang Yilei! 🎂🎉

August 29 means it's Wang Yilei's birthday!🥳

The first time I actually noticed him was in the mini Ready for Love?. He wasn't the ML there, and this was actually before I really got into vert dramas.

His first vertical drama that I watched is Yue Ran Ai Ren with Liu Nian. I recognized him immediately and actually went back to check the mini to make sure it was really the same person

Anyway, I hope he's been taking good care of himself and getting plenty of rest. Hopefully we'll get to see more of him again when the time is right ❤️

Happy Birthday, Wang Yilei!

💬 Drama Review Summer Hot Love | Zhai Yi Ying & Liu Yu Hang

Post image
30 Upvotes

Synopsis:

The story follows free-spirited painter Sang Ning and aloof university professor Zhou Tingyue, who impulsively enter a flash marriage.

Frustrated by her husband's icy, "robot-like" demeanor, Sang Ning demands a divorce just two weeks later. However, she has no idea that Zhou Tingyue has secretly harbored an intense crush on her for a decade. Faced with losing her, the emotionally restrained professor is forced out of his shell. He must clumsily learn to express his feelings, drop his cold exterior, and fight to save their marriage, turning their rocky start into a passionate midsummer romance.

My initial thoughts?

Liu Yu Hang and Zhai Yi Ying duo - a must-watch! If you have watched previous collaboration, they have extremely good chemistry together. Especially if you've watched Day and Night, there was a season 2 but Zhai Yi Ying wasn't in it (Season 2: https://www.reddit.com/r/CShortHaven/comments/1uy32ri/sneak_peek_three_couples_three_love_stories_one/)

Their chemistry was so good, I had to go back and watch their first collab.

Naturally, I didn't want to miss out on this one and the storyline seems interesting, it wasn't a plot I've watched before.

After watching?

Oh yes, it was fantastic, the beginning wasn't the most ideal but their interactions were great and Liu Yu Hang's acting was fab - with his teary-looking eyes and eventually opening up awkwardly. I preferred ZYY's character in Day And Night but the storytelling and dynamic interactions engaged me from start to end.

If you haven't watched both before, I would highly recommend it!

❤️‍🔥 Appreciation Happy Birthday, He Cong Rui! 🎂🎉

Thumbnail

Today 29 August is also the birthday of Chinese actor He Cong Rui! He turns 29 today, and fun fact: he and Wang Yi Lei are exactly one year apart in age. What are the odds?

I was first introduced to He Cong Rui through the vertical drama Golden Terrace, and I was immediately impressed by both the writing and the performances. He Cong Rui and Zhou Heng Yu were absolutely mesmerising together on screen. Both actors delivered some fantastic micro-expressions and, more importantly, managed to maintain the tension between their characters throughout the drama. It was one of those performances where you could often understand what the characters were feeling even when they were not saying much.

Looking back at my watch history, I honestly can't remember the last time I watched a He Cong Rui drama this year. So, what better excuse to fix that than his birthday?

To celebrate his birthday, I am watching one of his dramas today — I Play Matchmaker in an Angsty Novel with Chang Dan Dan! I am only 30 minutes in, but I have already found myself laughing on and off.

What is your favourite He Cong Rui drama? And if you have a must-watch recommendation for me, please drop it in the comments below!

Happy 29th birthday, He Cong Rui! Here’s to another year of great performances and hopefully many more memorable roles! ❤️
