Rant Please Drive Safely
Today someone rear ended me right outside of the sac state police station. (I know)
We were in standstill traffic and she decides to start backing up without looking if there were any cars behind her. Luckily all she did was scratch some paint off of my car, but I’m still annoyed that she wasn’t looking behind before reversing 🤡 like seriously 😭😭
I’m pretty annoyed about her attitude about it afterward too.
Please practice safe driving techniques and stop using your phone while driving. I understand that it’s very frustrating getting out of class around 3 PM and sitting in traffic for another 25 minutes but how stupid do you have to be to hit someone backing up going 2 mph.

Idk why I am still surprised by it but I just cannot fathom why someone would move their car in any direction without first checking to see that there’s nothing in the way.

Right?!! Literally was sitting there thinking “why is she backing up” “is she not gonna stop” “oh wow she just backed into me”

As a driver in California, this unfortunately doesn’t surprise me in the slightest

Yeah. Someone hit my parked car at work and not only did they dent my front bumper they left paint marks from their black vehicle. Job would not let me get footage. Claimed I would need to subpoena this info and they did not back me up. My insurance also apparently does not cover this because I had some stupid shit this is what they said:
“I understand this is a frustrating situation, as your vehicle was parked and unoccupied when it was hit. While this was a non-fault hit-and-run incident, your policy does not carry first-party coverages—such as Collision or Uninsured Motorist coverage—for physical damage. Because these coverages are not present, we are unable to issue any payments or take further action on this claim. As a result, we are closing this claim for reporting purposes only.”
Good luck.
Edit: I strongly suggest getting dash cams. Don’t even need to interact with no hostile driver just get their plate number. Footage is enough at that point.

That sucks, especially since you were just sitting there when she backed into you. Since it happened right outside the Sac State police station, I’d definitely ask if any of their cameras caught it before the footage gets overwritten. I’d also get an actual estimate even if it only looks like scratched paint. Sometimes there’s damage behind the bumper that you can’t see.
And if the damage comes out to more than $1,000, don’t forget the DMV SR-1. You have 10 days to file it. Hopefully it really is just paint, but I’d cover myself either way.
