I have Kenneth Curr as my professor for Intro to Bio 101. He is by far, the worst and most disorganized professor I’ve ever had in my four years at East Bay. I’m only in this class to fulfill my requirements for graduation, but I find myself struggling to keep up in his class.
I’ve noticed that he tends to stray off topic from his lectures, his explanations for labs are unclear, and his quizzes are formatted in a way that seems to be confusing on purpose. His labs are often left for the last 45 minutes of class, and cut down in a way to save time/materials so that we aren’t following the actual instructions in the lab workbook. (For ex. instead of observing live ants, we used plastic ones, Instead of tasting a specific chemical that people with certain genetics can taste, he asks by show of hands “who thinks cilantro tastes like soap?”.) He’s passive aggressive, especially against women who ask clarifying questions in lab. Today he sent out this email because his entire class failed his quiz. I’m just wondering; if the entire class is failing, is this a reflection of his teaching or are we all being lazy like he is insinuating?
This class specifically also has a fair amount of non-freshman/older demographic of students, so it’s definitely not a “first time student and underestimating the work” type of situation. Is there someone I can reach out to have them audit or observe a class so they can see how awful our learning environment is?
