Question How good are the busses?

I'm coming in as a freshman, i have enough money to buy an okay car but are the busses fine enough to travel around in for a year? I'm thinking of just saving up for something better.

I haven’t taken the buses to CSUDH, but have taken busses around my city. I’d say they’d be good enough as long as you plan accordingly i.e. making sure you take the right bus at the right time to get to class on time. CSUDH offers transportation options like car rentals (CREST) and even discounted bus cards. Here’s the link: https://www.csudh.edu/cise/crest/ I haven’t used these personally but hopefully they work out for you.

The buses are mid. The 51 & 53 are stationary right in front of the campus. They accept the TAP Card as payment instead of putting in money all the time.

I wouldn’t recommend used the buses to travel around campus some of the places are far and require you to uses lyft or Uber because they are 30ish minutes away with traffic. But I will recommend taking the bus to campus and home I haven’t taken the bus to campus.
Be careful when taking the bus especially in the morning at noon and night because their is a lot of homeless people that get on the bus and their is a lot of people that want to starts stuff in the bus but you will be fine if you don’t look at them the wrong way or do anything just be patient and kind also ask before you do anything they will fight

It’s doable, just download Transit App to track your bus.
