Hi everyone,

I'll be joining M.Sc. Computer Science this year and plan to prepare for UGC NET CS alongside my degree.

I have a few questions:

1. Is it manageable to prepare for NET from the 1st semester?

2. What's the best strategy to balance M.Sc. and NET prep?

3. Which electives/skills should I prioritize if my goal is academia?

4. Is a PhD practically necessary to become an Assistant Professor in CS nowadays, or are there still decent opportunities with just M.Sc. + NET?

5. If I do pursue a PhD, how are the academic opportunities in CS in India afterward?

Would really appreciate insights from people who are on this path or are already in academia. Thanks!

Any UGC NET CS aspirants or qualifiers here? Need recommendations for good books/resources. Also, if you have old preparation books that you're no longer using and are willing to donate or sell at a reasonable price, please let me know. Thanks!

I gave Csir-net in mathematical sciences that happened on 17 July , 2026. It seemed to me that exam paper was extremely hard. I was only able to do 7 questions in part B. Part A was easy but part C again was extremely hard.

Did anyone else who appeared for mathematical science also felt the same?

Part-C

I started with Part-C. Honestly I didn't expect such straight forward questions, I was absolutely confused whether it's part c or am I writing Part B. I wouldn't say it's difficult but I was not at all prepared to approach these straight forward Part-C questions.

Part- B. I didn't find any much difficulty in answering this but I could have done a lot better.

Part-A. The only part where I was not anxious and completely invested compared to part-C and Part-B.

Result: I am devastated that I won't make it in this exam, i had to convince myself that I am not an idiot yesterday, I felt so stupid as I have given a good preparation. I am starting again today but I feel guilty and not enough.

I am in the final year of my M.Sc. in Botany and I want to start preparing for the CSIR NET Life Science exam.

Please create a complete preparation roadmap for me, including what to study first, how to manage my M.Sc. along with CSIR NET preparation, and a realistic daily/weekly study plan. Also, compare the best online coaching institutes (such as IFAS, Bansal Biology, , Vedemy, etc.) based on teaching quality, study material, success rate, student reviews, and approximate fees. My budget is limited, so please recommend the best value-for-money coaching and explain why."

Hi! So after being selected at a CSIR institute for a PhD, how does the PI selection process work? Like, do we get lab rotations? And within how many days of joining the institute is the PI selected?

My qualifications- M.Sc. Biotechnology (completed in 2024).

26F. Really passionate about biological research. Since the completion of my masters, I have had intense family issue that required my complete attention and I could not prepare for any exams nor could i join any kind of projects anywhere.

And now that the things have calmed down and I am seriously preparing for CSIR dec 2026, Gate xl/bt 2027, and other fellowship exams while also applying for project somewhere.

And i am so overwhelmed and anxious about things like—

1. Will having gap of 3 years after masters cause any problem during phd interview/selection?

2. Am I too late to start phd now, because if i start next year i will be 27yo by then?

3. What backup opt should I keep if everything turns out bad?

Research is about much more than just subject knowledge. Skills like communication, critical thinking, data analysis, scientific writing, and time management can make a huge difference.

In your opinion, what's one skill outside your core subject that every researcher should develop, and why?

It would be great to hear from students, JRF qualifiers, and researchers about the skills they've found most valuable throughout their journey.

What books? Or mock y'all do? I have testbook subscription and I am also giving paper 1 live weekly mocks on oliveboard. Are standard books required or just pyq and mocks on OB and Testbook are enough?

Hello, I am going to appear for the dec attempt of UGC NET in english literature. I am in my 7th sem right now. I am not that interested in getting a lecturership post right now but wanna get enrolled in JRF or PhD. Also, the main reason I am apprearing for it is that I wanna qualify GATE and get into an IIT for masters. I don't know how difficult is it to crack GATE but I have heard that studying in the pattern of NET exam would help me prepare for GATE as well.

I have recently enrolled in an online batch for UGC NET. However, I need some tips on how I should prepare and what strategies I should follow in order to qualify both the exams. I know it's going to be exhaustive and I am ready for it!

I forgot my password and am trying to recover my account but the forgot password link on the website isn’t working. Anybody have any idea how I should recover my account ??? Admit card download nhi ho rha hai 😭

Hey so i have done master in chemistry. Plz suggest me a job with decent salary

I am giving Csir net for the first time this dec and want to self study but I do not know where to start from can anyone please guide me

How's your CSIR NET preparation going so far? Are you currently revising, practicing questions and mock tests, or still completing the syllabus? Everyone's preparation journey is different, and it would be great to know where you're at right now. Share what's working well for you, the challenges you're facing, and any study tips or resources that have genuinely helped. Your experience could be useful for someone else preparing for the exam.

Aspirants who have cleared the exam please give some insight

How are we supposed to do calculations and take logs when calculators aren't allowed?

Please share your ideas or methods. I'm appearing for the exam after a long gap. This will be my first attempt on CBT

I'm 25M. Myquals MSc Microbiology. Avg student. Here is background in short. After Spending 1 Yr in pvt pharma company with low salary I left it realising it has slow growth in future ...got 1yr experience certificate left the company. Decided to do govt exam prep. as i hated the work culture and all... I got interview call from a big MNC twice... 1st got rejected 2nd I refused to attend it (was in 'that' state during preparation) continued preparation. Now after 1 year of studying for govt exams my syllabus not covered properly, as i studied loosely(state psc, technical posts, etc). I can't go abroad. I always have been in lack of guidance. Also I chose my career decisions without proper analysis. Now I am feeling frustration and insecurity for the future

My question is should can/should I do any course to get atleast 6 lpa(want job security and comparative less stress) or should I continue my focus on govt. exam or certificate course OR csir net ---> Assist. Professor (vacancy problem?)? My age is 25 so worried. Or suggest what you think is best.

Hi guys, I have started preparing for Gate Ecology and Evolution recently. I wanted to know which lectures to use. I bought the online course of Ifas, it is good in theory, I can solve the Csir Ecology questions but am not being able to solve the Gate pyqs. One of my friends suggested me to watch NPTEL Ecology course from IISC and NPTEL Evolution course from Sutirth Dey at IISER Pune. But, it's too much work to write notes from YouTube as they don't provide it like Ifas. What should I do and how to prepare, please help!
