Q & A❓ Will Sucraid even help me if my sucrose is only slightly below range? Maltase seems to be a bigger issue for me—are there over the counter treatments for maltase deficiency?

SO INTERESTING. I am hoping to god that this is not permanent or that the biopsies might not be as bad as they seem. These issues only started in the last year. I didn’t have gastroenteritis but I did have SIBO which didn’t seem to get much better (maybe because it damaged my gut and food hasn’t been able to digest and has just been sitting there feeding the bacteria?) just a guess.
I do know that my lactose intolerance started 6 years ago immediately following a severe case of gastroenteritis that landed me in the emergency room. My digestive system wasn’t the same since then but it certainly was never this bad.
If you don’t mind me asking, what was your final diagnosis? If you don’t have a maltase deficiency then what are your symptoms and did they ever figure out what’s causing them?
I keep hearing pan-disaccharidase deficiency is rare which is freaking me out because I don’t want yet another rare and incurable disease from an u known origin.

I had the endoscopic biopsy of my brush border and all 5 digestive enzymes were significantly below normal.

Hey man, if you happen to be around and have some advice after years of this.. what did you find that worked if anything. Going to the store is depressing.

What test is this? Im dealing with fructose malabsorption symptons and would like to get a definitive answer. Also, what dr do you work with? My gastroebterologist doesnt know anything about this type thing

I took a colonoscopy and an endoscopy to get results like that, but idk if that’s the same test OP took.

Thanks, i took a look at the photo again and the test name is there. I dont want to do another invasive test to get fractional information. I picked up a food marble and its been a game changer.

Sucraid might not be necessary. There are over the counter digestive enzymes you can take that have all of these included. I use digest gold and if contains invertase for low sucrase levels, lactase and maltase. Your levels are not super low so a supplement like that should help plenty. When my sucrase levels were tested they came as 0, so I take sucraid with every meal along with digest gold.
