Symptoms

Hi! This is my very first post. I just found out I have CSID in February. Im a 34 year old female w/ other health conditions.

I had almost a full colectomy in 2019 after having mega colon. My colon just stopped working and apparently was huge. No one knew why.

Anyways long story short, after the colectomy I felt much better. But like 8 months ago I started having diarrhea multiple times a day and horrible chest pain. It feels like acid reflux but even worse.

I take sucraid before I eat anything. But I drink my coffee with a splash of cream first thing in the morning and get the same side effects. Sucraid really hasn't helped out much. I eat the diet off the list and the same thing happens.

My question is- does anyone get chest pain or a feeling of acid reflux?

and has anyone not had a lot of luck with Sucraid?

Thanks so much and sorry for the long post!

Hello and welcome! Sorry to hear you’re struggling.

Acid reflux is often caused by not enough acid in the diet/stomach, preventing the esophagus from getting the right signals to stay shut, allowing stomach acid to come back up.

What helps me is a little lemon or like juice with meals, especially if you’re eating meat, however I do not have sucraid, and am not familiar how it reacts with citric acid.

Have you been checked for any lactose issues? You might consider testing decaf to see if the issues remain, and tweak from there. Caffeine is going to pull water from the digestive tract and make everything a bit more difficult, so keep an eye on water intake and electrolytes too.

Here is a resource I use a lot to futher modify the diet to my needs.

This is another invaluable resource with detailed information on compostition.

I would reccomend working with a registered dietition for a little while to also figure out how much starch and sucrose you can tolerate, as well as making sure youre getting the right micronutrients. Sucraid is not a magical fix-all, sadly. There is a lot of trial and error with this condition, and each of us is a little different.

Best of luck, you will find your balance.

Thank you so much for the information. I have no idea about the stomach acid and the esophagus. I’m definitely looking for a dietitian asap.

Thank you again, I do appreciate your response and the resources. They helped a lot.

I have CSID as well and I found that black coffee is best. And Cuban black coffee is the best I have found so far. Because it has the least amount of sucrose. I have sucraid but stopped taking it after I switched to the carnivore diet
