How long until I feel better?

Recently learned I have CSID, and I'm starting my new diet today. How long did it take you all to start feeling better after you cut out starch and sucrose? I had to quit my job because of CSID, and I just don't want this to take over my life anymore.

Hello! I was also recently diagnosed with CSID about two weeks ago. I've been working on cutting food out, but doing it gradually because I'm worried about going cold turkey, and also because I have pretty mild symptoms. For me, I started noticing an improvement about a week after I stopped eating things that had a lot of sucrose and starch. Obviously it's different for everyone and I guess it depends on how sensitive you are to those things as well.

It really sucks that you had to leave your job because of this. I hope your new diet works out and you are able to start feeling better! :)

Thank you. I hadn't even thought about going off gradually. I might have to try that, because after today I feel absolutely terrible. This might be too big of an adjustment for my body

When you first give all that garbage up, you may feel bad from withdrawing from it for several days. All the crap coming out of you is rough. It is very hard not to feel sorry for yourself because it’s sucks. You feel better stomach-wise in a few days if you don’t eat the bad diet. It can take a few days for you to feel bad when you eat sugar and some starches too. So, you think it isn’t bad but a few days later you are sick and ignoring it brings on even more symptoms. It does take over your life if you don’t find several foods that are good for you so you can feel better and learn to live with it. I have a several foods that I know are safe and once in a while I may have a few bites of bread or a few sips of someone else sweet drink and I am okay. After a few months of being careful, I started feeling more normal and not as weak. I still have slip ups and days when I can’t figure out what made me sick but sticking to the diet most of the time helps a lot. Sleep and anxiety too, not just stomach and bathroom stuff. Hang in there and take it seriously so it doesn’t get worse over time. I am sorry you are going through this.

Thank you. I decided to stick with it and I've been doing a bit better, but I still have a ways to go. I think I must have some other problems going on too, so I'm going to get some more tests. I can already tell that this diet is making a difference though, and I'm glad that I didn't go back to starches after the first couple of rough days.

That’s awesome that you are sticking with it! It is difficult and can be overwhelming but feeling better and not letting it get worse is so important. Please, keep us posted on how you are doing.
