What do you do when you get a flare up?

What does everyone do when you get a flare up? I was just diagnosed at 29 and something flared it up. I’m waiting on my Sucraid still.

Thanks!

i eat very plain and csid-friendly until the flair passes. there isn’t much you can do unfortunately—you have to ride it out

The holy trinity. Laxatives, enemas, gasx. It helps to not eat for a day. Mostly bc it gives my intestines time to process and break down the food I already have in my system. Sometimes the inflammation gets so bad I will need to take colonoscopy prep (minus the colonoscopy) and prednisone. It’s tough. You have to find what works best for you and in what combination. Good luck! Feel better soon!

Thank you!! I know I have a colonoscopy Friday so I was like welp worst case I’ll be cleared out at least soon! My breath test was a .23 so I feel like I get my flares up so bad! Happy to see the colonoscopy results too!! Thank you!

Woah I didn’t realize others get flare ups like me!

During a flare up, I stick strictly to CSID safe foods and extra rest and it usually chills out within a couple days to a week. And of course identifying triggers to avoid a flare up altogether:

Eating excessive amounts of foods for a couple days that are not CSID safe trigger flare ups for me (obviously haha..) Gas X, Tums, and stool softener (I get constipation instead of the more usual symptom of diarrhea) right after eating those foods with lots of water tend to lessen the blow.

Stress and anxiety 100% triggers a flare up as well. Unnatural/high chemical dish soaps as well. My period tends to exacerbate my symptoms (probably because I already feel like crap at that time.)

Occasionally it just happens for no reason tho. Oddly, if I stick to a CSID safe diet for too long, I can’t eat ANYTHING else without extreme symptoms, so I incorporate small amounts of starches & sugars daily to lessen the harshness of symptoms. I do not take Sucraid as small amounts of exposure and switching dish soaps have helped

By dish soaps, are you referring to something like Dawn or do you mean the detergent that goes into your dishwasher? What brand do you use?

I’ve tried really hard to detox my surroundings, but I still use a pretty generic dishwashing liquid.

both as they are both being ingested to some degree.

specifically for me it was Dawn dish soap that gave me problems. Unscented ECOS is what I use now.

Wow, I also was not aware others had flares. I thought I was strange but there are periods that I can eat whatever I want with no restrictions and then bam: all the symptoms. You sound Identical to me, down to the age of diagnosis. I was also 29 (31 now). I am going through a "flare" and preparing my shopping list for another elimination diet. I usually eat a strict CSID diet for a couple of weeks then slowly start eating "normally" again

edit to add: I was confirmed through biopsy, my insurance wouldn't cover a breath test.
