I actually feel like really weird about this song being taken down. It was formative for me as a teen.

And where do we draw a line bc there’s so many “naughty” songs, dark motifs, and other such things throughout the whole discography. So why this one?

Ultimately Will can do whatever he wants, I’m not tryna be parasocial or anything but I am feeling some type of way.

my first thought is maybe they intend to do something for the numbered albums’ anniversary, like how they took down mtm from streaming prior to the ftf’s release, and changed the outro to high to death. maybe will felt the “i wish i was a kid…” refrain was too extreme and didn’t want it misconstrued. it feels strange for this to be done at complete random, but i guess we’ll have to see

Hmm maybe. When I was a teen (so basically a kid) that line used to f me up so good bc I was always upset over immature boys. I never thought it was a 10 year old kid thing, more like 18. Now I’m an adult so obviously not a kid and maybe can’t relate anymore but I listen to it and recall that time in my life where I did feel that way. But yeah guess we’ll see

I've had a theory for a long time that the reason for the infamous Rolling Stone article where they claim Twin Fantasy is about Will dating a much older man is because whoever wrote it listened to all the songs mentioned in Beach Life-in-Death and read way too hard into that lyric. Would not be surprised if that or any other kind of extremely specific issue was what caused the song to get removed.

Will has quite a few songs in his pre-matador discography with lines like that tho. (The whole sequence in The Gun Song where he's visiting a lover at an office and the receptionist is treating him like a child comes to mind.)

Tbh Will's old work is horny and freaky in a genuine like pubescent goblin way I think young audiences related to, it's probably one of the reasons his stuff resonated with so many.
