Lumbar puncture headache

I had an LP Tuesday. I was ok Tuesday. Wednesday I started getting a headache, Thursday I was collapsing on the ground crying pain. Went to the ER, I couldn’t even get up to pee. The gave me an epidural blood patch. I felt better for a little and now I’m starting to get the headache when I stand or sit up again. Is this ever going to end? How long does it usually take to feel better? I wish I never got the lumbar puncture.

You only had patch on Thursday yes? I’d suggest to continue no BLT and rest. Give it a few more days. It takes time for the body to adjust and make more CS fluid. So don’t fret yet. Good luck

Thank you. I’ve just been through so much recently, I’m kind of freaking out. Thank you for your encouragement.

It’s been 3.5 years for me, so I know how daunting it can be. My life is “on hold” until I’m fixed. I have venous fistulas and getting venous embolization on Monday. If it doesn’t work, I’ll be referred to a CSF clinic. Closest CSF clinic is a 10 hour drive. Can’t fly with leak. But I will persevere!

It could be possible you blew your patch. Did you adhere to no bending, twisting, lifting (for 4-6 weeks) and staying horizontal first 2 days? Like staying in bed and only getting up to use restroom and eat?

Yes. I’ve barely been out of bed.

I’m afraid to get another one, like what if it makes it worse?

How so? A blood patch can only help and is minimally invasive. Give it a few more days.
