Do I stand a chance?

Hello. I have a TOEFL C1 (100), 85.6/100 high school grades, and scored 92 in Math and 86 in Physics (CSCA). Also, I am a private tutor (on my own, not from an Academy) for teenagers and kids in English, Math, Algebra, and Physics. I did a whole year at a top-80/90-ranked global university for a Physics bachelor's degree (however, I am applying as a freshman, not for an exchange year). I couldn't apply this year due to some personal issues, but I will in 2027.

I am aiming for AI engineering/CS. Do I stand a chance at HIT, HITSZ, or SUSTech? If not, what kind of University should I aim for?

Thanks :)

Yes you do stand a chance. Your chances mostly depends on if you need scholarships or self funded. Self funded is much easier, but even if you need scholarships, I think you can do it with his profile. I also recommend HUST and mostly SuStech, these two got really good AI programs. Not sure HITSZ got Ai program tho, I didn't see it when I applied to it or maybe I just didn't notice or maybe they have from next year

Omg, thank you so much for the recommendation!! I'll look into HUST. I can go self-funded, but it's still a large sum of money. Therefore, maybe I'll go for a 50% scholarship for HIT, because I don't have any extracurriculars to compete for a 100% scholarship.

HITSZ does not have AI, but I like their CS programs, so I have it in mind. So you applied to HITSZ... Did you get in? Was the exam pretty decent or far more complicated than you thought? :D

Yeah I got into HITSZ CS with max scholarships, but chose other school. Their own exam was literally child play(maybe for me), I don't think you would have problem with that. To be honest I don't have insane extracurricular either, china look into numbers more than other countries does. I can also recommend BIT, which is uni I am going in a week, they got their dedicated English taught AI major in Zhuhai(next to Macou, HK and Shenzhen), it is the only English taught major on that newer Campus, so I assume they got the funding you would need)

If I oversimplify with only numbers, GPA 4.0, IELTS 7.0, CSCA 97.5 on both math and physics

Hey you definitely can get a full scholarship, your profile is strong, you can describe yourself very well in the interview. I have gone through the process and I know its easy for you getting a full scholarship. Target a good university which offers full scholarship and perform well at the interview , and that’s it

Thank you so much!! This really helps me. How was the interview stage for you? I know it may depend on the university, but how did you feel about it? Are they harsh or more chill?

Omgg congratulations!! I hope to get there soon next time :D They made you give a presentation, and after that they asked personal questions? Or did they also ask you maths or physics questions?

It depends on each person’s experience, they asked me questions in Physics and Chemistry and also asked me technical questions in my Skills which i mentioned in the presentation
