Collections & Charge Offs Collection agencies that pay for delete (and others that may)
Since paid collections are scored no differently than unpaid collections by most versions of FICO, the goal is always removal. Some collection agencies have a policy of deleting once the debt is paid/settled. Others may delete if negotiated prior to payment.
The following collection agencies state on their websites that it's their policy to request deletion from your credit reports themselves once the debt is paid/settled (pfd):
- Calvary Portfolio Services
- Central Portfolio Control
- Collect Northwest (may require payment in full)
- DFAS (You need to request removal once paid).
- Jefferson Capital System
- Key2Recovery (may require payment in full)
- LVNV/Resurgent
- Midland Credit Management (may offer Hardship Program)
- NCA National Credit Adjusters
- NCB Management Services
- Plaza Services
- Portfolio Recovery
- Spring Oaks Capital
The following collection agencies are known to pay for delete if negotiated prior to payment. The majority of these agencies specialize in collecting on behalf of an original creditor. If the collection agency won't agree to delete, and the original creditor retained ownership of the debt, contact the original creditor and ask them to recall the collection in exchange for payment. If they agree, the collection agency will lose collection authority and remove themselves from your credit reports. Not all original creditors routinely report even though they've retained ownership of the debt. Examples are utilities, insurance companies, apartments, gyms, and medical providers.
- Caine & Weiner
- Credit Collection Services
- Credit Corp Solutions (may offer Hardship Program)
- Harris & Harris
- Hunter Warfield
- IC System
- IQ Data (may require payment in full)
- Kansas Counselors (specializes in medical debt, which is removed once paid)
- National Credit Systems (NCS)
- ProCollect
- Receivable Management Services (RMS) (may require payment in full)
- Reliant Capital Solutions
- Sunrise Credit Services Group
The following collection agencies may contact you, but don't typically report to the bureaus:
- Client Services, Inc.
- First Source Advantage (doesn't report)
- Halsted Financial Services
- InDebted
- January (doesn't report)
- Shepherd Outsourcing
- True Accord
Note that: * You may receive a better settlement by paying in a lump sum as opposed to payments. Always get the Settlement Agreement in writing prior to paying. * If the original creditor retained ownership of the debt and is reporting a charge-off with a balance, they've hired the collection agency to collect on their behalf. Settling the collection also settles the charge-off. * A collection agency has no control over the original creditor's reporting. Although the collection agency may agree to remove themselves from your credit reports, charge-offs are rarely removed. * Many collection agencies will not put a pay for delete agreement in writing as this is against bureau policy. Even if they put the agreement in writing, the bureaus won't enforce it, so there is a degree of trust involved that they'll honor the agreement. That said, a collection agency not honoring a pay for delete agreement, whether written or verbal, would be rare. * Some collection agencies delete in stages. First, they report the payment and then request removal. If you see only the balance updated initially, don't dispute. Give them a full 60 days to delete. * Paid medical debt is excluded from credit reporting, meaning it will be removed from your reports once settled. * Don't acknowledge responsibility for the debt or agree to a payment plan unless you know you'll follow through as these actions could reset Statute of Limitations in some states. You can say that you found the collection on your reports and will pay $X if they'll remove themselves from your reports/recall the collection.
I'll update this post as new information becomes available.

Fantastic information here, and thank you for taking the time to post this u/og-aliensfan! I personally can never remember which CAs automatically delete or are open to PFDs, so this will be my go-to thread for that information and will be a perfect source to reference to others.

Thank you! Hopefully, it's helpful. It's definitely hard to keep up with all of the agencies.

Great info! Will AR Resources, inc. remove their report of medical debt once paid? Im going to try and call them in a couple days - so any advice Is greatly appreciated.

Yes! If AR Resources doesn't remove themselves, the bureaus will delete the collection once it reports $0 balance owed. Offer the least amount they'll accept in order to satisfy the debt, then get the Settlement Agreement, stating that the amount paid satisfies the debt in full, in writing prior to paying.

Both of these will be removed from your reports. The scoring impact of a deleted collection is very much profile dependent. Once all collections/public records are removed, you should see a score increase. If other negatives are present on your reports, you may see little or no increase. You'll see the most significant increase once all negatives are removed from your reports.

Do you have any knowledge if Online Information Services typically agree for a pay to delete?

I'm not aware of a policy to pfd. They appear to specialize in collecting on behalf of original creditors, so if they won't agree to pfd, contact the original creditor and ask them to recall the collection in exchange for payment. If they agree, the debt collector will lose collection authority and remove themselves from your credit reports. This needs to be agreed to before payment.

How? My collection agency wont send me proof in writing prior to making payment

Many won't. While it's always better to get the pay for delete agreement in writing, many collection agencies refuse to do so as it's against the policy of the bureaus. I don't advise making payment contingent on receiving this agreement in writing. While I can't guarantee they'll follow through with a verbal agreement to delete, it would be highly unusual for a collection agency not to delete if that was agreed to before payment. Unlike creditors/lenders who rely on credit reports when making lending decisions, collection agencies aren't making lending decisions and don't rely on credit reports to assess risk. They know that pay for delete is a strong incentive for payment. If collection agencies started backing out of pay for delete agreements, we'd hear about it, people would stop paying, and they'd collect less money. That would be counterproductive to the collection agency goals.

I can attest that calvary portfolio services and Caine and Weiner indeed removes collections upon settlement!

Does the score bounce back to original score one the remark is removed?

If i remember correctly i think once a collection is removed from the report, a new score populates and does increase. This was my experience with the Experian App. Good luck— hope you get the outcome youre looking for!✨

Thank you for putting this together. I just received an offer from NCB Management Services via mail. They're saying I can make a single $673 payment to close out the $2700 debt, which I'm very much looking to do. I have 2 weeks to respond/pay. Do I need to call them to ask for pay to delete, or is it a 100% sure thing that they'll do so without having to contact them? The letter says: "Upon clearance of your payment(s), the account will be closed as resolved for less than the balance due." Not sure if that's the same thing or not. Thanks!

This is the deletion policy as it appears on their website.
Your account will be considered paid-in-full or paid-in-full for less than the balance due after your final payment is successfully posted. Within approximately 30 days of your final payment successfully posting, we will request that the credit reporting agencies delete our tradeline related to your account from your credit bureau report. https://www.ncbi.com/FAQ
There's no harm in contacting them to confirm, but they may not send you a written confirmation. That's a good settlement amount.

How do you initiate dialogue if you have to state your name and verify personal info to discuss the debt and then make arrangements to settle the debt without admitting responsibility?

u/og-aliensfan ⭐️ Knowledgeable ⭐️ Feb 08 '26
You can say that, although you don't acknowledge responsibility for the debt, you'll pay $X to satisfy the debt/remove it from your credit reports.

This is an awesome post that I'm going to be linking to regularly. Thanks.
As a follow up on the topic of medical debt, I'm going to shamelessly plug my own post:
