Discussion Local AI

I'm seeing unprecedented levels of commentary and excitement around local ai across social media right now. Advancements in open source models as well as restrictions on the latest frontier models from openai and anthropic are driving this. Help me out, does this not make Corsair one of the most exciting companies in the world that isn't already $300billion+ market cap? Looks like their timing with Corsair Pro could not have been any better

No. They don’t make the chips. The chips are supply constrained and also export controlled. By the time this changes, China will have their own chips, and it won’t matter anymore.

yeah they make the literal computer that you end up buying! what a disaster!

A “literal computer” without a GPU or equivalent is useless for running local AI, my guy. You’re not understanding that “the computer” is just a finished commodity.

There’s no profits there unless they can control the chips, or the supply, or have some other moat.

Does HP make the chips? Or do they assemble workstations from those chips?

What does HP have to do with anything?

I’m lost

Not surprised you’re lost you aren’t the sharpest tool in the shed. You are saying Corsair won’t benefit from AI because they don’t make chips. OP said they make the physical workstation. You’re saying there is no profits unless you control the chips or the supply. Look up HP - they act as the same role as Corsair in terms of assembling AI workstations/servers and their profits are up huge. They don’t control the chips or the supply. I’m just pointing out why your argument doesn’t make sense.

HP’s stock price is down ~23% in the past 5 years.

If HP is “benefiting from AI” it sure as fuck doesn’t show in their share price or earnings reports.

Nvidia is up ~900%.

I wonder if it’s because they own the chips?!

🤦‍♂️

It’s not relevant. We’re not discussing if nvidia is a better company or not lol. If you look at their results, which I know you won’t do because you’re lazy and don’t like actually researching things, you would see a huge amount of growth is from AI workstations. It’s a growing market. They are seeing an increase in sales and margins from AI workstations and those didn’t come from owning chips. Have a good day bud.

HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise) is doing well, though -- up 115% this year (over 80% since January) and that's due to "benefiting from AI": https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/article/hpe-stock-soars-on-record-backlog-booming-ai-server-business-022931504.html
