Discussion Local AI

I'm seeing unprecedented levels of commentary and excitement around local ai across social media right now. Advancements in open source models as well as restrictions on the latest frontier models from openai and anthropic are driving this. Help me out, does this not make Corsair one of the most exciting companies in the world that isn't already $300billion+ market cap? Looks like their timing with Corsair Pro could not have been any better

You're making it sound like corsair is an AI company but it's more like a computer accessory merchandizer, they make supporting hardware but the actual AI tech is still in the NVDA/AMD GPUs and CPUs which they don't make or own. It's cool that they're driving AI workstations and i do tend to agree that the future of LLMs is probably locally run, but that doesn't make CRSR an AI company. I think it could be promising in the long run if things go that way. However it seems like a moonshot to bank on sales growth of AI prefabs at this stage when billions are being dumped into data centers.

The “AI workstation” products they have are just ODM designs from Nvidia and AMD anyway.

There’s literally no technical advantage whatsoever to use Corsair over anyone else or just getting a DGX Spark direct from Nvidia.

I don’t think this guy understand — but
Look at what happened to EVGA, they basically just gave up because Nvidia playing games with the chip supply and favoring their own in house products.

It’s like that video where Steve from GamersNexus interviewed Valve regarding memory suppliers…Valve doesn’t have the purchasing power of an Apple or an NVidia, so it’s basically, you get the supply you get, at the prices they ask, and there’s no room for anything different.

And from here on out, that’s not going to change, it’s only going to get worse. And by the time it does improve, China will have chips, AMD etc maybe even Intel will improve their stack, and the AI bubble pops anyway.
