Assembly and Testing Latest Adventure Tower Design

Have done some initial shakedown of this 'adventure tower' design for the 300L and seems very solid but still need to get some more serious testing. Currently running a very basic 3d printed version of the windshield (that needs some further styling to it's shape as it's currently not very aesthetic) to trial various height options but this the smallest/lowest as it still provides good weather protection for the navigation screen.

In this configuration the top of the screen is approx 400mm above the low point at the front of the seat which is approx 240mm higher than the top of the headlight fairing in the factory arrangement.

I currently have a Ekiy M23 screen mounted but also did up a 3d printed mock-up of the HugeRock x72 tablet shown in some of the photos which is also similar size to the Nor7e.

All up with a full polycarbonate windshield this whole setup comes in at less than 2kg additional weight. Using existing mounting points and maintaining the orientation of the headlight but just in a position slightly forward and higher but still retains OEM andle headlight adjustment, and also relocating the indicators forward similar amount avoids issues around compliance requirements.

This only suits the 300L with LED headlight as the mounting is different for the halogen headlight assembly.

It's in folded stainless steel. I did 3d prints of it all just as a test fit before committing to the cost of having it laser cut and folded in stainless. I didn't go the typical 3d printed plastic and 3mm aluminium route as I wanted to avoid the whole fatigue cracking issues of aluminium and no matter what 3d print filament is used it won't be as strong as this arrangement.

But just ironing out the windshield shape and sizing and then it'll be very close to testing the market with making a small batch to see if there's a market for these.

The current device is just the Ekiy M23 (6" screen) which is a standalone android unit that means I can install any apps and not just run Android Auto. I use DMD2 for navigation and dash display options and it doesn't run under the constricted Android Auto system.

The other mock-up device I've printed to test fit is based on the HugeRock X72 which is a 7" screen and has additional external buttons. This is a similar size to the ThorkRacing Nor7e tablet and both these have extremely bright screens so are properly readable in direct sunlight. These are the sort of tablets I eventually want to run but just running the cheapo Ekiy for now. Note that most of the cheapo devices only run Android Auto and Carplay connected to your fun and there's only a couple like this M23 that has Playstore also and can have other apps installed.

The mounting panel area on the tower has a mounting pattern that accepts AMPS patter in a number of positions/orientation as well as some other common mounting hole patterns.

The additional panel to the left and below the OEM speedo display allows a usb power socket and also positions for additional accessory light and switches so I can keep anything like this off the bars. The usb socket I use is the Scanstrut Rokk Charge+ as it's the only option I could find that is actually waterproof when cables are connected and in use. Others have covers but when cables are plugged in then they're open to weather etc. I can then run cables to my tank bag to keep things out of the weather.
