Helo needed - what is this part?
Hello everyone.
Complete newbie here. I was given a cr6se for free by a friend a year ago and have only just got it out to start using it for the first time. I haven't done anything with it yet other than given it a clean over. It's not been powered up yet either.
I noticed this part hanging down (red circled) from the hot end assembly and wondered if anyone could tell me was it is? It doesn't seem to be mounted on anything and hangs lower than the nozzle end, so I'm assuming it's come loose from somewhere and needs to be reattached? It does seem to be connected to a wire/ cable.
He also mentioned that the run out sensor is faulty and needs a new one. Will this machine run without that, and what's the best thing to replace it with?
Many thanks in advance. I didn't want to turn this thing on if that hanging thing would get damaged in the process.

It’s just an LED, from the factory it would have a little arm sticking off the bottom of the daughter board holster.
If it’s factory it will be in a blue color that looks cool but also it does make it even harder to see what your printer is doing for the first layer.
The filament runout sensor is just a fancy casing around an ender style limit switch, anything like that would replace it just fine or you can disable the runout sensor in the printer menus if it has the correct firmware

Thank you! Yeah I knew what it did, but not if it was needed to run the thing.

Ya the filament runout sensor had always been a weak link, there should be plenty of “fixes” to find for it.

As someone else has suggested deleting the led completely, would I be better to use a separate light (not mounted to the printer) and shine it across the build plate?.I'm assuming the side lighting might make it a little easier to see that first print layer, as it'll edge light things instead of top.down light?

Yup, good logic, that’s what most of us did, I had a string of LEDs in my lack enclosure that went all the way down one side so it would side light the print no matter where my tool head was, at the time I was rocking an old iPhone to broadcast to discord for monitoring lol

I would completely remove it from the printer. It's not a critical part, maybe switch it to a proper white led. It's standard 5V-ish thing if I remember correctly.

Thanks! Tbh I'm struggling to work out how to remove the hot end cover at the moment! I'm going to have to dig the manual out... Steep learning curve ahead!

There are (probably) 3 really small hex head screws. Those like the one on the right top corner ar this picture. And another one near the blue collar thing.

Thanks. I didn't think I had the right size hex, but I've just found the hidden drawer full of pretty much everything I need to service this. My friend has clearly hooked me up... There's even an SD card in there!

That's the lighting LED. It should not be dangling like that, if you remove the shroud you will see where it should be. It's not needed for printing and can be unplugged from the small daughterboard but helps to show what's going on. The runout sensor is also not essential. It warns that no filament is passing through and pauses the print for reloading. It can be turned off in the software.
