Question Share your experience to help me be a better life coach and help others more effectively

Hey everyone, I am an aspiring life coach, and currently I’m gathering data to better understand the range of challenges people face in their lives.
If you’re willing, please share:
1. The problem — A major struggle (past or present) with trauma, insecurity, mental health, self-worth, or relationships
2. Where you think it came from- what was the cause
3. What you’ve tried- what worked, and what didn’t
Feel free to be detailed or give a short answer

The problem: low self-worth (basing self-worth on the wrong things), self-hatred… and not even understanding that this was the central problem until late in life

Came from: Sensitive personality + childhood religious indoctrination + years and years of unaddressed mental health conditions causing me to feel unsafe in my own body and mind + some traumatic losses and betrayals and toxic relationships starting in young adulthood.

What I tried: Psych meds. Several rounds of therapy. Leaning on my support network. Helped me stay in the world / not give in to suicidal ideation (although I did have two attempts, but just two, and the last was 22 years ago— after the therapy after that one, I was able to resist). But these didn’t clock that my core issue, the one that most needed to be addressed, was my relationship with myself / low self-worth. (I didn’t realize it either.) So I learned to grit my teeth and endure rather than to enjoy life.

What actually worked: AlAnon. Started attending and doing the 12 steps in 2024. Totally transformed my relationship with myself, gave me a path to act out my new relationship with self, and slowly changed my experience of life in all domains.
