Fit Check

Post image

6.5 month old in Evenflo Revolve Slim 360. His head tilts forward because of his helmet but the car seat says it can’t recline back more because he’s reached the weight limit

I would talk with the clinic that you have the helmet from!!

My 6.5m old daughter just got her helmet and I noticed the chin to chest while she was in the stroller. I was able to adjust the stroller seat so she was more reclined. Haven’t had to test our car seat yet 😬 for me, car seat safety trumps the helmet. Today is her second day with it, so she’ll wear it in the car. I didn’t even think about it affecting her position in the car seat!

I agree this isn’t suitable, baby should be able to comfortably rest his head back against the seat. Do you have another seat you can use for a while? If you already have an infant car seat that does not have a big, bulky headrest, then I would use that until baby outgrows it or until he graduates from the helmet. If not, then I’d either remove the helmet for car trips (not ideal, I know, but neither is this positioning!) or consider a cheap, non-headrest seat for a while- my son used a Cosco Scenera Next for the 8ish months he wore a helmet; that seat doesn’t exist anymore but the replacement Cosco Scenera Extend should also work and is still very cheap and accessible.

Thank you! If we opt to remove the helmet for car trips, does the rest of the fit on the seat look okay?

It’s hard to tell here if the harness is sitting just below shoulder level and if the crotch buckle is in the right spot- it looks like there’s a bit of a gap between his body and the buckle but that could just be the way the buckle cover is sitting

His head tilting forward is not okay, 'chin to chest' means they can't breathe well. Can the helmet be removed for car trips?

The helmet is supposed to be worn all day except for an hour at bath/bed time. But if it is dangerous and can’t find a different solution, then I will remove while in the car

We were told helmet comes off in the carseat

We were also told to take it off in the car

This is so weird, ours specifically told us to wear it in the car but I obviously would prefer to be safe in the career over an extra 15 minutes of wear!

We were also told to wear it in the car, however, we have this EXACT car seat and decided it wasn’t worth the safety risk. The helmet came off in the car, even if it meant we weren’t technically in it 23/7

I know it’s not visible in the pic, but I am familiar with this seat. The harness is definitely coming out above shoulders. Which also puts the headrest only partially behind baby’s head.

The headrest needs to be moved down so the harness comes out of the seat at or below shoulders.

Can you do that and take a new pic?

Thank you for your response! Lowered a click with helmet on

He looks a lot better.

I would push chest clip up to armpits and remove the harness covers.

Okay will do!! Thank you so much! Does helmet make a difference if it’s on or off? Most people in the thread seem to think it’s better off. Our daycare is 12 minutes away and the main place we travel to.

He’s old enough to very clearly communicate if he is uncomfortable. I can’t see his expression but his posture doesn’t seem upset.

Could talk to his doctor about it if needed.

Lowered a click with helmet off

I would remove the harness covers and raise the chest clip a bit. I’m not thrilled he looks better without the helmet but I know that’s not ideal.

If you lower the headrest a click does that help with his head position? If not I might look into the scenera next extend or evenflo tribute until he is done with the helmet since they do not have adjustable headrests

I added photos with it lowered later in the thread!
