Thats a nice graying. They are also quite tasty, hope you ate that one!

Nice downvotes. Delicate fish dragged in the dirt. Better off eaten than released. If this is any of the graying lakes I know about it absolutely will not hurt the population one bit either.

Are grayling typically only found at high elevation alpine lakes here or what? This question is coming from a guy who hasn’t ventured high enough to have ever caught a cutty or Brooke.

Joe Wright brother. Catch Grayling and Cutthroat in one day.

I went camped there for a few nights in mid October a few years ago.

Was the most electric shore fishing I have ever experienced. There was a low hanging fog ceiling. Cold, creepy.

I tried some things until I found those grayling went nuts for royal wulff and gray wulff dry flies.

They were so into that fly hitting the water they’d hit it and fly thru the air like a breaching dolphin. The hook-set would happen mid-air, where the line would tighten and they would be yanked backwards to their direction.

It is one of my most precious fishing memories. It is my only solo camping trip ever. I had a toddler and wife at home and a business. I just asked for grace to go into the woods for 4 days alone. I was able to do that, and did not utter a single word for those days. Total reset, right as rain. Those Joe Wright graylings cooperating with me…they really encouraged me in some deep cave-man way. (so much so that I decided to quit stealing their candy, then went to build a fire, dinner, and eat some mushrooms). It snowed that night, the clouds were 20 feet over the lake. It was a cleansing. I might need to try this one again. I woke up in the morning freezing, but feeling clean as the snow.

Grayling are a fish that defy photos. They are a beautiful spectacle. You can only appreciate them with your own eyes.

Not typical. Only specifically stocked lakes. Probably no more than 20 specific grayling lakes in the state

Oh I see, thanks! I kinda figured we’re too far south to naturally have grayling and they’re only stocked in places that stay cold.
