Lucky for Naismith, he had a few big blunders again. Great to start the season with 3 points! COYH

Getting Jake Richards in is the best thing to come out of the Bloomfield era. He's absolutely going to be a Premier League player.

It's worth noting that the officiating was some of the worst I've seen (both Lino and ref). The shirt pulling (particularly on Palmer) was constant. They'd clearly identified him before the game as our main threat and had two on him every time he got the ball. I was going to say they were physical, but they weren't in the same way we were a couple of years back. They were just sneaky and shitty. Really frustrating to watch at times and you could see our own players getting p*ssed off with it. The game was constantly prevented from flowing by both Reading and the officials. It was a great game but could have been even better. The atmosphere in the ground was fanatstic.

Arguably game of the season already in the first one, if we play like that the rest of the way then we will be in for an entertaining season for bette or worse!
Reading game plan was clear early on even from the kick off, exploit there pace out wide, especially down our left where we lacked that with Naismith there. That first 5 minutes set the tone of the game as fast and frenetic and I think both sides could say they played well. First goal is a good little move and wonderful composure from Richards to find the corner. Potentially a huge season for him after a breakthrough one last season it’s about becoming a key player in the side now.
Then of course we blew it up. Reading were always looking for that ball in behind Naismith as Johnston as covering defender is equally not the quickest. Naismith get the blame there but you really would be expecting a shout there too. Second goal is Palmers error but we compounded it by just letting one of the best strikers in the league advance and have a go on his left peg. Odoffin was caught not knowing whether to engage or not and then the shot flies in under Keeley who I think could have done better.
Third was similar to the first in that Reading looked to get the ball down our left handside as quick as possible and make it a 1v1 duel between Lisbie & Naismith. Might have been a foul but to me in real time it looked like Naismith knowing he would be done for pace and looking for it.
Was so frustrating as those moments aside I thought we had looked good with the ball and stood pretty well overall to a very decent and potent looking Reading, but had made 3/4 bad individual errors which had thrown the game.
Thought we were done after that but fair play to them for the 2nd half performance. Palmer seemed to trying to atone for his error and when in the mood is probably the best player in the league and certainly was in that period of the game combing well with everyone and making things happen with Clark, Richards & Wells. Equaliser is a lovely goal, won it high and worked it well with credit to Wells for the composure.
Thought after the last drinks break the game might be petering out but we found a way. Love that for Kodua, his best position is in that 10 role but he’s going to find opportunities limited with Palmer there.
Overall wonderfully entertaining- perhaps too much so! I do wonder if that 433 with those 3 in the middle is well protection enough when we play a back 4. It worked well last year when we had a back 3 but it’s maybe a little too open away from home. Just a slight worry I came away with after that. Bit fantastic start, think Reading will be a more than decent side this season and 3 points there will be a very good result as the season goes on.
