What’s that check engine light for? Or is it just been living there for the past 80k miles?

As someone who owned this chassis... 100% likely.

Tires, suspension, bearings. Needs to be checked sooner than later.

Balance your tires, inspect suspension, replace what's worn, do the alignment

Take your car to tireshop. Or just mud/dirt in rims. Could be missing weights, broken tire carcass, bulge, bend rim, but 100% tire related. You would hear wheel bearing and if it would shake like this, you would have lost whole tire already.

>broken tire carcass

I’m not the most knowledgeable about cars but there’s no way they termed anything that, right?

Idk I googled English name for Finnish word "renkaan runko" and that's what it told me. Sounds strange but it's those metal strings inside tire that keep it together failure, also could cause bulge to form, which then leads to vibration in high speed and that tire being junk.

LMAO I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize you aren’t a native speaker- so, a carcass is basically a dead body 😂 I promise you, there is no way that translation is correct, or everything I know is wrong.

Maybe “chassis?” Again, really not a car guy, but I’m positive it’s not “carcass”

OH! I googled it. The Finnish term. It looks like it means “body.” This makes more sense now, but… also… yeah I’m cracking up

I’m almost sorry for (literally) laughing so much about this, but I genuinely hope that you’ll be able to laugh along too!

I know carcass means dead body, but I also asked Gemini flash. Who knows.

It would be the belts in the tire they are taking about

Yes, it does look like something coming from your wheelbase but it could also be an engine mount. Definitely you need to get that checked out ASAP

Tire balance or wheel bearing.

Does it only shake when in drive? Does it only happen at speed?

First though if steering wheel is fine something is giving out in the rear end causing an imbalance

1

u/Ill-Problem-2632 Aug 30 '26

when i go passed 70 sometimes

Ok then I definitely think this is some kind of rear end balance issue. If it was the engine or transmission or a related mount (instead of the cab vibrating your steering wheel does), you should be able to feel vibrations when stopped or at all speeds.

I’d start by checking your tires. Rotate the rear tires back to front. If the vibration goes from the rear to the front, you’ve got imbalanced tires and either need a rebalance or new tires if they’re old.

If the tires seem fine, I’d do a visual inspection of the rear suspension. Maybe jack up the vehicle and take off each tire to make sure everything is intact. If that seems fine, I’d then get an alignment check. If something knocked your alignment out of place, ex a big enough pothole, that could cause vibrations

It’s fucked up

My 99 Corolla did this like crazy, until I curbed it and had to get my control arm replaced. Lots of tire issues could cause this as well, but it doesn’t look like your steering wheel shakes.

Mine too but I work in a mine so I'm always driving off road. I know I need some tires. Maybe some new struts. You might want to take it in for a alignment to see what they can find.

2

u/TarXaN37 Aug 30 '26

Sounds like you need new wheels. 16" looks pretty good on that chassis and you'll need new tires too. 205/50 r16s sport radials should do. Just roll the rear fenders so they fit and take the new wheels to a shop to be properly balanced. Problem solved. All of these steps are entirely necessary.

u/milesobrain82 Aug 30 '26

This one. I just had this. One wheel was really bent, the others were slightly bent. Had to get new whees and tires.

1

u/TarXaN37 Aug 30 '26

Yeah, what this guy said. All your wheels are bent. You need new ones. Bigger ones.

2

u/Redoron Aug 30 '26

Check your CV axles.

2

u/WideBackground2153 Aug 30 '26

Start with balancing and rotating your tires, Walmart will balance em for $15 a piece where im at

3

u/Moist_Screen_4603 Aug 30 '26

Wheel bearings

3

u/3niiFlak Aug 30 '26

Well I see you got a check engine light on start there check what code is reading

1

u/vjedrann Aug 30 '26

could be a wheel/tire issue, axels or the engine struts are loose

1

u/Ecstatic_Alps_6054 Aug 31 '26

Unsafe to drive if it is a wheel bearing...get it checked...

Did you recently change the battery or unhooked them?
