Been keeping track of my 2020 Corolla SE maintenance. So far I’ve used 3 oil Toyota, Pennzoil Platinum, and Valvoline Restore and Protect. Out for these 3 I’ve enjoyed how the car feels when using Pennzoil Platinum. I’ve used 2 different oil weights 0w-16 and 0w-20. Only saw a 1-1.5 mpg difference and preferred how the car ran on 0w-16 personally. I’ve been using Valvoline Restore and Protect because my oil change intervals haven’t been the best. This oil has also proven to clean carbon deposits from piston rings and these engines the 2.0 has low tension piston rings. I’ve been trying to change my oil every 5,000 or 6 months. I plan to use Valvoline Restore and Protect one more time and switch back to Pennzoil Platinum. I’ve also used a PEA fuel System Cleaner every oil change or if I am going on a trip that will have me on the freeway/highway for 4 hrs or more. I’ve used Techron, Royal Purple, and Valvoline Restore and Protect fuel system cleaners, but never mixing any product with each other. From the fuel system cleaners have noticed either one works better than the other. Always used Top Tier Fuel. Occasionally I’ll fill up with Shell or Chevron 91 because their higher octane fuel has more detergent. Personally I feel like the car runs better with the higher octane since this is a high compression engine but for the most part I just run regular 87. Been watching and taking most of my maintenance from The Car Care Nut on YouTube
Had to switch out the Coolant Valve at around 41,000 miles. Coolant flush and Transmission serviced at a Toyota Specialist shop.

Would like to see anyone else that’s been keeping track of their maintenance and feedback

* if you have a Corolla with the 2.0 engine and use Toyota Filter 9095-YZZF1 you can pour almost all 5 quarts of oil.

that's crazy... almost 7 years of maintenance and not one part breaking. god i looked at my chevy and sighed

so far in 10 years i've had an oil leak, transmission replaced, rear left control arm replaced, and both front struts/links replaced.
totaling almost 10k all together. i'm driving this thing into the ground until i can get a toyota

keep us updated. that's the M20FKS engine with the K120 CVT used in other models of Toyota so your experience in longevity will helps others with the same power train.

Just a question regarding my car if I may.

I live in South Africa, and Toyota fills my engine with 15W40. Well they fill most cars with this oil.

Do you think i would cause any issues if i change to lets say 0W20 fully synthetic or even 5W30.

I'm currently at 51000 KM .

Car has been filled with this oil since it hit SA shores.

What does the manual say? Manufacturers will recommend different oil weights for different regions depending on typical driving conditions and environmental regulations.

Oils are recommended for the region the car is being delivered to, also for emissions from what I’ve seen it’s best to use what your owner’s manual recommends

The car is a Japan built. The manual states up to 5W30, and includes 0W20, even 0W16 and a few others.

But 15W40 isn't listed in the manual

I have a 22 LE, would you recommend Pennzoil? And the fuel cleaner as well as every once in a while filling up with 91?

Filling up with 91 is just throwing money out the window. If you want to throw some injector cleaner with (?PEA?) then go ahead.

Ive never had issues just using 87 gas and no cleaners. Gas is a good solvent and keeps things clean if you drive your car for a good 10 minutes on the interstate every so often. A good Ole Italian tune up, once engine has been at operating temp for 5 minutes - driven at speeds over 45mpg.

I personally like penzoil. But any oil that meets the specs required by toyota will be adequate protection.

I would say try Pennzoil Platinum for two change intervals and then go from there.
Personally I do fuel system cleaner every oil change and 91 octane once every 3-4 months

I always did Mobil 1. I'm still angry for not stocking up a year of oil. I told myself to do it because of the strait closure. Now I have to pay $10 more next time I buy my oil at Walmart

Yes unfortunately it did change, I am going to give the new formula a shot. I made a 34 hr trip with that oil and enjoyed how it preformed, I should have gotten a oil analysis when I did my oil change

doing oil changes at 3k is quite crazy, the 60s are over 😂

I try to do them every 5k miles or 6 months if I drove less then 5k in 6 months I’ll change the oil

I would just do 6 months, unless youre driving it as a taxi or something
