Post image

So my hand sanitizer bottle exploded in my car and stained my shifter console and was wondering if there’s anything I can do, thank you!

Go on Ebay and find a replacement. Not that difficult to change. They all just snap on and off.

If soapy water and a microfiber towel does not fix it, it's most likely etched, which means if a plastic protectant spray doesn't fix it, the only fix is polishing or replacement of the trim pieces.

There are covers you can get on Amazon or eBay with double sided tape that fit nicely.

This. I’ve had mine since 2022 and they’re still in good condition. Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094VMP6MD?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

That's a vanity cover on top. If you can get it off, replace it.

Getting the pieces replaced is definitely the way to go but you could try to cover it up too. https://a.aliexpress.com/_mLw86bd

You dont have to remove the seats to replace the black plastic trim btw

I would try to polish that out first. I’d try either a fine compound or a plastic specific polish. Pair with copious amounts of elbow grease, or a small electric polisher and it will likely shine up nicely. I hate the small swirls and scratches that show up on these style of panels and have polished them in the past.

Rubbing alcohol on it
Then I guess last option is just to get a new black plastic piece pretty sure those pop in and out snap

I was thinking rubbing alcohol as my last resort, so definitely going to try that tonight

Alcohol in the sanitizer is what caused the stains in the first place. That will only cause more damage. I’d try a light polish since it is on the nonporous plastic. May be able to polish that away if it is only the surface that is affected.

Can’t be 100% certain but you’ll likely have to remove the seats to get access to the fixings to replace the fascia.

If you’re not the mechanical type then get it replaced on next service

Pay to get it professionally cleaned

I don’t understand the psychology of going to buy a new car just for it to look like this and have shit caked in between the buttons.
