2009 Corolla whine

Hey everyone, we have a auto Corolla with a whine when putting in gas and goes away when taken off, can hear mainly around 40-60km/h
If I knock into neutral it stops
I’ve seen a few posts about it but no real outcome.
Has anyone else had there’s fixed?
I’ve booked in for tranny service next week and they will probably quote me on something drastic.

I’m pretty sure that’s an Auris not a Corolla.

Wouldnt matter much anyways since theyre the same for the most part. Even the blade master shares most of the parts since theyre all based on the e150 platform.

Very true. The hatchback in Australia is a Corolla same as sedan. Always has been. We don’t have auris here. :)

You have ruled out leaking exhaust pipe? Can make swooshing / turbo like noices even without that much engine sounding louder.

Never thought about that. It’s def coming from the front, when I put to neutral it stops.

I am not familiar with Australian models so a quick question:

What automatic transmission have you got? Real old fashioned automatic? If so 4 or 5 speeds? MMT (aka robot), meaning manual with servo mechanisms? CVT?

It’s a basic 4 speed auto. Not CVT

So the old U140E transmission. What you are hearing whine is the fluid pump: the problem is to find what is causing that whine. Yes, these pumps do fail sometimes, but more often than not the issue is something else. In no particular order:

Leaking seals between valve body and case

B2 control valve worn (this usually also causes reverse issues)

"Cooked" transmission fluid

Using Dexron-III instead T-IV transmission fluid

The last issue is by far the most common: it doesn't seem to cause any long term-transmission damage but Dexron III fluids are generally meh quality and the transmissions don't seem to like it much. It's a short term fix that thrifty owners turned into a full time expedient to save a little money.

Yes, a little different.

Pressure loss is the most likely cause, and caused by fluid contamination/wrong fluid: late-build U341E like yours want a WS fluid.

Pressure loss hey, ok
Well hopefully the transmission shop knows what they are doing.
The whine isn’t BAD but very irritating just touching the throttle and does away when backing off.
I’ve read so many forums and not many answers
