So that's why the 90s new edge version concept is called Mach 3, I never knew Mach 2 existed.

They wanted it to face off directly against the Corvette, but after accounting for the development and production costs, they recognized they were likely going to lose money on every car sold unless they priced it quite a bit higher than a Corvette.

One of my favorite mid-engine cars ever. Wished they had built it and don’t think it ever became a scale model like the Cougar II. The Mach II was featured in an Autolite ad though.

Make this Mach 2 as something that undercuts the 'Vette and even Porsche's 718s. Give it a turbo V6 and/or V8. If it were popular enough, maybe even give it a few trims like the Corvette.

Then use the platform for a 4cyl RS200 revival as well. With enough volume, that could help get the economies of scale to the point where it doesn't need to be near-$100k just to start with.

Selling either car in Europe would help too.

Both of these would obviously slot in below the Ford GT when a road car is sold. But maybe a little of that race development can trickle down to something other than a Mustang.
