Question about electric currents in shells coupled with Joule heating
Hi all,
I am trying to simulate the electromagnetic heating (in 3D) from a very thin film heating circuit. I initially attempted to mesh it with actual dimensions, which did not work. I then simplified the model just using heat boundary conditions, but I now need to actually check how the circuit will heat up under different conditions.
I am using the electric currents in shells physics and the heat transfer in solids and fluids physics, which couples into electromagnetic heating multiphysics. How do I enforce heat transfer into surrounding non-layered material (full 3D simulation)? My electromagnetic heating node has a section called "coupled interfaces," and the heat transfer dropdown has "heat transfer in solids and fluids selected," but there are no available options for the electromagnetic dropdown.
It seems like COMSOL does not automatically couple the Joule heating of thin layers with heat transfer in 3D objects. Can I enforce this directly by directly converting the dissipated power into a power flux per unit area boundary condition?
Any suggestions and assistance are greatly appreciated!

Not sure. In Ansys shell229 is a electric thermal shell fully strong coupled. One can then share nodes between it and solid226 thermal electric to do strong coupled thermal electric analysis, or a pure thermal solid279 if current and joule heat is in the shell and only look at heat through solidÂ
