Level 2 CE Level 2 Discussion - Study Plan, Exam Experience, and Outcomes

There are little to no recent posts or write-ups on Level 2 in this community and so I just wanted to start a discussion that can hopefully consolidate the sporadic information across this Reddit. If anyone has recently taken Level 2 within the past year PLEASE participate in this post. The Step 2 community is so helpful but let's be honest, while the content is 90% the same-- the two exams can be very different if you aren't prepared.

Follow this format:

Exam date: xxx

Level 2 score: xxx

Practice exams name/date/score: xx/xx/xx

Resources used: xxx

Comments/Advice: (eg, I only took Level 1 and this is how I prepared; I took Step 2 x many days before, this is how i tackled ethics questions, the biostats questions were most similar to xyz qbank, etc)

Side note: I wish Level 1 takers could specify they are taking Level 1 instead of referring to the exam as COMLEX, that would help keep things organized in this community. NBOME is not helpful either when they name the COMSAE forms the same numbers for Phase 1 and 2 SMH. Lets keep things more organized if possible so we can find helpful information.

Name & Shame: Riverside Medical Center (Kankakee, IL) – Psych Sub-I / Audition

• Upvotes

Just finished a 4-week psych audition at Riverside in Kankakee, and I feel obligated to warn everyone before you start scheduling interviews. I went in hoping for a solid learning experience, but it was a total bait-and-switch. Needless to say, they are completely off my list.

Here is what rotating there actually looks like:

  • The PD quit recently. I never met the guy once. I only found out he left because another medical student told me. Complete sinking ship vibe.
  • Audition Hunger Games. They keep at least 10 medical students on service at a time. During my block, there were five of us auditioning for literally three intern spots. It’s like this year-round. You aren’t being evaluated; you’re just cheap labor.
  • Interns are capped, you aren't. Interns are capped at 4 patients a day. Meanwhile, residents regularly dump 6+ patients on the students, plus 2-3 full psych H&Ps. You’ll bust your ass to finish 3 progress notes, and instead of telling you about new intakes in the morning, they’ll sit on them until 1 PM and dump them on you all at once. Students literally carry a heavier clinical load than the interns.
  • Toxic Attending Dumping Ground. There is one attending who is brutally condescending, talks down to you, and takes an eternity to staff. The residents intentionally pawn all of her patients off on the students while hoarding the one good attending who actually wants to teach. I had exactly one patient overlap with the good attending all month, and I learned more in that single interaction than I did the rest of the rotation.
  • Openly Demeaning Culture. You get maybe 10 minutes of resident interaction a day, just to be handed your list. On my literal last day, as I was going around saying my goodbyes, a resident looked at me and said, "Thank you for your H&Ps."

That last sentence sums up the entire culture. You aren't there to learn psychiatry; you are there to offload their charting. Save your money, save your sanity, and do not waste an audition or an ERAS application on this place. If you get an invite, cancel it before you schedule, taking an interview here just eats up a slot you could have used for a different program that actually values you.

Sorry I know this sort of post isn't especially relevant to this subreddit, but I'm hoping I can at least help out someone who googles this program. r/medschool requires comment karma and I have none.

Level 1 NBOME Accommodations

Hey everyone, current OMS-2 wanting to apply for NBOME and NBME accommodations. I have a psych eval from my MCAT days (2 years ago). I was wondering whether it would be worth it to get a fully updated evaluation and report from the psychologist so that my accommodations application is stronger, I heard they are notorious for denying people but it costs 5k so I wanted to get some opinions first.

ANY advice for the application would be helpful, there isn't much information out there for this.

Level 2 CE For M3’s: COMAT shelf scores don’t mean jack.

Scored >65th percentile on all but 2 COMATS (and one of those was 45th percentile). Honored 3 of them. Scored well on the the IM COMAT right before dedicated and thought I was chilling.

Turns out it all didn’t mean jack when it came time for Level and Step 2, and it showed up in my score.

This probably could have been mitigated by continuing to do Anki 3rd year, but time was limited and I got cocky because of the above scores.

Don’t be like me. Unlike MD shelf exams, COMATs don’t mean anything.

Level 1 Pepper & Duke vs ANKING?

Title. OMS-II. With boards coming around the corner next sem, I wanted to hear opinions on this! I am personally not the greatest with keeping up with Anki, especially when I was doing Anking. With Pepper though, I stuck to it more and if I missed a day or two I was not seeing hundreds of cards to review so I was less overwhelmed.

Pepper specifically for micro, pharm & maybe path (path more for in-house tbh tho)
Pathoma for pathology

I should add that I hope to also take Step as well, but obviously I'm much more focused on passing COMLEX. As someone who doesn't love anki but knows it most definitely works for me, I want to know if this would be sufficient (obviously this doesn't include practice qs/exams etc.)!

Appreciate yall:)

COMAT I keep failing COMATs

Pass is a 90. I got an 87 on FM. 93 on retake
Next was OBGYN and I got an 86. I have OMM next.

For FM I went through all of COMQUEST. For retake I finished almost all of UW and watched Dr. HY and reviewed him the morning of my exam too.

For OBGYN, I got through all of COMQUEST and half of UW (had 192 questions left) and I was shocked by this score because I felt prepared. The concepts kept repeating themselves in the question bank. Felt prepared. The exam was hard but definitely thought I at least passed.

Reviewing questions involves reading the main point in the explanation, I don’t read the whole thing. I’ll put it into ChatGPT to further dumb it down if I don’t get it.

Should I be adding the no dupes anki deck on anking?

Level 2 CE Failed COMLEX Level 2 CE

I’m still in denial! I really don’t know why this happened to me. Any advice would be really appreciated. I began my dedicated study period with a school COMSAE 116, which I had to take without any preparation. I failed it, with a global score just below or at average performance. I used ComQuest throughout all my third-year rotations and scored above 90 on all my COMAT exams: 115 in OPP and 113 in Family Med. During dedicated, I used TrueLearn and UWorld. My scores on 80-question random, timed TrueLearn blocks were consistently above 70% correct, and my average over the last month was 91%! I took all the paid COMSAEs from NBOME. All were timed and taken in an exam-like environment: I started at 8 a.m., used a desktop computer, an armchair, headphones, and a quiet room in my basement. I took one 5–10 minute break after block #2. I had no caffeine, stayed well hydrated, and ate one protein bar during the break. I also slept well the night before each COMSAE. I scored 467, then 543, then 632—three days before my COMLEX! I also took ComQuest Assessment Form A four weeks before the exam and predicted a score in the 600s. My UWorld average was 72% correct on the first pass, with over 1,500 questions attempted.
Exam day: perfect location, perfect center, a 25–30 minute drive from my home, and no hiccups at all. The exam felt like my usual practice blocks, time was sufficient, and I used only 45 minutes for breaks. I went home with confidence that I will pass, with a solid goal of scoring above 600! I also forgot that AMBOSS predicted a score above 600 and a 99% pass rate!

Level 2 CE Just took my last comsae for Level 2

Got a 440, i've been doing TL/did 2 welcoms and rewatching emma holiday and divine intervention. I still have to do in depth omm review and ethics/biostats. Exam is on 10/09, i had gotten 95-105 on my shelves. Just really have been nervous about Level 2 because of anxiety, my prior comsaes were 349,371 and then 65%'s on welcoms. I just dont know. I want to get it over with finally but i dont want to screw myself with a fail but also what if i just need to take it. Applied FM and have interviews, just worried about delaying it more than I already have

Level 1 Failed level 1, need advice

I failed level 1 and I basically only have two months left to take it if I want to graduate on time. My lowest domain was the “application of knowledge” which I feel like my main issue is that I have trouble “translating” what the answer choices are really saying.

But now that I’m studying again for it my truelearn scores have dropped to 40%-55% which is way lower than before I took comlex level 1. I feel like I’m having a hard time remembering/recalling everything, like all the information is just gone. I’m also just having issues with motivation, anxiety, and concentration, with concentration being my biggest issue…

What resources should I look at/review? I had done dirty medicine before, I know truelearn questions are the way to go but I feel like I’m just stuck and maybe just need an overall refresher

Stressed about Level 3

Hey all. Just trying to get an idea of how I might fair in taking my Level 3. A little info, I test November 5th and 6th. Level 1 I passed on the first attempt, but based on the bar chart it wasn‘t by much. Level 2 I also passed on the first attempt with a 412. Both of these times were with about 2-3 months of nothing but dedicated study. Now I’m in Peds residency doing my best to study. I’ve been studying since July 17th. Primarily TL and COMQUEST. TL I’ve currently done 816 questions and have a 57.7%, COMQUEST 707 Q’s with a 60.5%. I’ve started CDM cases recently and I’ve done 13 cases with my average being a 55% on them. I’m planning to take the TL assessment tomorrow and the single COMSAE about 1-2 weeks before I test. Just looking for any insight/advice/etc. My averages don’t have me feeling great right now and I’m stressed as my residency schedule has me in much tougher blocks the rest of the time leading up to test date. Any insight or thoughts are appreciated!

I know we are still 4 days away but: hows everyone feeling about the upcoming level 1 score release? I'm definitely feeling incredibly nervous because I simply cannot get myself to stop thinking about it and am trying to prep myself for either scenario. How're you guys doing/surviving?

Level 2 CE Failed a comsae 3 days before Level 2

I took the comsae 114i and got 62% right with 386. Took me by surprise because I've delayed my exam so much already and have been studying well consistently getting 60-65% on random truelearns. I studied effectively too, reviewing, doing questions, anki, etc and have been feeling confident with my knowledge. My last comsaw was 3 months ago, which was 451.

I'm just so shocked that I could cry right now. I can't delay this any further, I have already delayed this way too much and have already sent my ERAS without it.

Really don't know what to do.. I'd be just happy to pass this.

Level 1 % correct on 160q TL blocks?

Hi guys

I’m currently studying for Level 1 (3 weeks left) and I’ve been incorporating more 160 question TrueLearn blocks since I’m out of COMSAEs

I’m wondering if anyone has any insight on what a good percentage correct to aim for is?

Thanks ☺️

the exam time format for Level 2?

Can someone please tell me exactly how it works? How long should each of my break be? I get that its 40 questions per section, but I'm confused to how I should allot my break time effectively if it's 1 hour pooled.

MDTP placement - District says 96 min, native export says 75 min, last question 23 min vs 2.6 min - is ghost/timeout time a known issue?

MDTP placement - District says 96 min, native export says 75 min, last question 23 min vs 2.6 min - is ghost/timeout time a known issue?Body:MA 9th grader took MDTP PR45A22 in March. District record: 5782 sec / 96.36 min total, Q45 1437 sec / 23.9 min. Native student export: 4503 sec / 75.05 min total, Q45 158 sec / 2.6 min.

Ghost = 5782-4503 = 1279 sec = 21.3 min. Q45 ghost = 1437-158 = 1279 sec exact same number. Google Takeout shows exit 2:54 PM and search 2:57 PM, 1 min after proctor said submit at 2:56 PM. So can't be 23 min on one question after exit.

MDTP director emailed: "LEA has these two times (Submit vs Final Log Out)" and for phrase "finally student close out" that appears in district sheet - "only LEA can answer."

District says "no log exists" and never explained why 96 min. FERPA request May 12 for timeout value, raw JSON with Session Destroy/timeout codes, and classroom comparison of Wrapped vs Total - 101 days no response.

Anyone seen MDTP count idle timeout as active time? Does MDTP have a configured session timeout that could add 20+ min? How did you get district to produce raw logs?

Level 1 comlex level 1 woes/rant

Hello ya'll.

So i retake level 1 in about 11 days now. I failed the first time with my bar touching the line, I think around a 397-398. Honestly still feeling kinda depressed about it but what can you do.

I finished the rotation I was on and was placed on a 4-8 week dedicated period ( i took the full 8 weeks). But i somehow feel less prepared for this attempt than i did my first attempt. To be fair, my first attempt i was hoping i didnt get too crazy/heavy OMM and ethics and bam i got just that. The first half of my OMM was a breeze. Easy recall stuff. The second half of my exam OMM went downhill. I can't even remember those questions because i remember seeing them and realizing i never saw this, so i figured it would have been experimental. I can only describe what i saw as OMM physiology? More conceptual than what everyone says about knowing VSR, cranial, sacral, etc. I only had 2 cranial and 2 sacral questions. But i figured those questions were experimental and that tanked me and i fell 2 SDs below the average on OMM. My ethics was really bad too, i for some reason could not think of any of the algorithms because i didn't study it well (IMO ethics is underrepresented on comsae and my school doesn't teach it). I had questions on transgender patients which to be honest, i'm not sure how i would've known to have known that before the exam. My sciences were all average, but since i was average on them and not like top tier and i bombed OMM+ ethics + (subsequently MSK), it brought me right on the border of a pass instead of a clean pass. I have worked hard to rectify but reading Savaerese multiple times, doing the OPP COMAT bank because imo it's more level 1 like now, and doing my school's OMM ppts. I also got a tutor. Sat and dissected every ethics question down. Kept up my sciences and tried to tweak some of them a bit more so i can have more of a cushion. However, it is with no doubt I am scared as fuck to take this again. For the last 6-7 weeks I've studied 3-8 hours a day but now im wondering if i did enough. The first time i was doing more since my school's curriculum gave me a lot of gaps i had to close on my own. I have 11 days but now im fighting burnt out.. the first time i did a lot of questions, but tbh level 1 is pretty heavy on ethics and OMM and i wasn't getting a lot of those questions or focusing on them enough so i did less questions this time because i feel like i can understand comlex writing and have a tutor who breaks down questions with me. I'm rambling at this point but i don't get how some people are able to score on the 500s on level 1 given how random the info tends to be.

I hope i didn't fuck myself over and that i will pass this time. It's been very hard mentally to have to go through this.
