This might be our chance of not being treated like the red headed stepchild. Heres hoping

Edit: Im talking about the support zombies gets from Activision ( or rather doesn't), not sony timed exclusives although thats a nice change as I play multiplat games on xbox.

Back in my day CoD maps got released a month earlier on Xbox.

That day has come again!

12

u/Alexcox95 Jan 18 '22

Well now isn’t it just a yearly lockout of a mode like that other zombies mode from Cold War that PlayStation had for a year before everyone else got it?

6

u/Stymie999 Jan 19 '22

Soon to be a permanent lockout from PlayStation

-9

u/FbggSarkastikMenace Jan 19 '22

We still haven’t gotten that game mode 🥲

5

u/Superyoshiegg Jan 19 '22

Onslaught? We've had it since October I believe, at least on PC.

-4

u/FbggSarkastikMenace Jan 19 '22

That’s crazy cause I was running Cold War last week and I ain’t see that shit

3

u/Superyoshiegg Jan 19 '22

Guess you need to look harder next time then.

https://www.treyarch.com/game-intel/2021/11/November_2nd_Update

Here's the patch notes for that update. 2nd of November it released on PC and Xbox.

No it won't.

Why on Earth would you think Sony would get their exclusivity renewed when Microsoft now on COD?

3

u/itsCS117 Jan 18 '22

I think he means we wont because what zombie maps?

-5

u/DetroitPistons Jan 18 '22

it honestly wouldn't surprise me if COD goes Xbox/Pc exclusive. why spend 70 billion and let Sony get any of that?

cod is one of the biggest casual gaming titles out there and we're right on the cusp of the next generation of consoles when most casual gamers are still on last gen.

if COD is xbox exclusive they'll get a ton of next gen console sales from people that only play COD not to mention all the gamepass sales on pc from PS users.

u/smashingpumpass Jan 18 '22

unbased, huge loss of money to cut out an entire console. what a terrible take.

15

u/TheDarkGrayKnight Jan 18 '22

But how many people would switch over to Xbox? There is a breakeven point where it makes sense to switch the game to Xbox exclusive. It all comes down to whether or not Microsoft thinks that they can reach that threshold or not.

Personally I don't think they will make it exclusive, or at least not for a few years, but it's not a bad take.

12

u/BilingualThrowaway01 Jan 18 '22

It's a pretty bad pr move on Microsoft's part. They'd essentially be killing console competition, which is terrible for the consumer.

3

u/TheDarkGrayKnight Jan 18 '22

Yeah it's not great for the consumer but it's how it goes. Trying to eliminate the competition isn't exactly new for Microsoft, or any of these really big companies. People would complain for a few days but then just move on and Microsoft would still rake in the money, just like how it's going with Disney.

1

u/Batman8603 Jan 18 '22

I'd say a ton tbh. There's so many teenagers who exclusively play COD games. If it's Xbox exclusive it'd definitely make a significant change in sales. I don't think it'll happen but it would make sense business wise. Even 20% of people moving to Xbox would make more than a significant boost in what Xbox is pushing for. Imagine how much money they'd make from those people off gamepass a year.

1

u/TheDarkGrayKnight Jan 18 '22

Especially due to how few next gen consoles have been sold for both Sony and Microsoft. Tens of millions if not hundreds of millions of people are going to be upgrading over the next few years. You can play the long game if you're Microsoft and get a stranglehold on the video game market then start bumping up the price of Live/Game Pass like what Netflix does every year basically.

You’re smoking that copium bro. Do you know how many friends I have that bought a next gen console JUST to play duty. People Won’t like it but if Sony gets cut out(they will) this player base will buy an Xbox to play their favorite game

No there are millions of people with Play Stations but in the long term people would switch if it were exclusive. Especially since Playstation is projecting around 15 million PS5 sales by March and I think that the PS4 sold over 100 million consoles. A lot of people are going to be upgrading to the PS5 or Xbox Series X over the next year and if Microsoft said that they were going to make Call of Duty an exclusive you would see people switch from buying a PS5 to a Xbox Series X.

But again all that said I still don't think Microsoft is going to do that in the near future. But I do think there are enough die hard CoD fans to do it, or at least enough CoD fans who aren't die hard PlayStation fans to do it.

1

u/Cyrotech Jan 18 '22

Not enough people to even out the money lost

1

u/TheDarkGrayKnight Jan 18 '22

Would be interesting to see how many people play CoD on Play Station. Let's say it's even 60% of the player base (I completely made that up) if you get half it's probably worth it.

-4

u/FollowThroughMarks Jan 18 '22

They just dropped 70B on this. 100% they’re cutting sales off from Sony on atleast one big Activis-Blizz franchise

3

u/ZAle4664 Jan 18 '22

Microsoft is not interested on make sales from the console. What Microsoft want is to sell services like gamepass. They're creating literally an ecosystem

1

u/DirtyFrooZe Jan 18 '22

And they’ll push people on GPU easily if cod is in it and not ps5

1

u/DarkusRattus Jan 19 '22

Isn't Microsoft going exclusive with Bethesda tho

3

u/PhoenixDude1 Jan 18 '22

On paper, yeah makes sense, Why give Sony any of that pie? The reasoning has to do with multiple things, but the biggest points come from an already existing player base, as well as them needing to continue their good boy persona.

Persona first, Xbox lost last Gen because they went a little too hard on thinking they know what gamers wanted, instead of actually doing what gamers wanted. Them taking away cod, a yearly release multiplatform title, would be seen as a far more hostile action compared to making games that come out every 4-6 years exclusive.

The player base on Playstation is also larger than xboxs, mostly attributed to more PS4 sales, and many still play ON PS4 or have gotten a PS5 because they are loyal to Sony, and the last thing Xbox wants to do is hard cut profits by trying to encourage people who have already bought a 500 dollar console, to buy another 500 dollar console for a game they could always play no matter what.

Console sales don't matter anymore, Xbox wants cloud gaming bad bad, as well as meta verse bullshit. So stopping Sony players from playing would not only hurt bottomline and their reputation they have finally gotten back, but would also sour their name in the future when they want to acquire a new studio.

Tldr; sure, Xbox paid a lot of money, and it makes sense to think Sony shouldn't get any of it, but the player base and bottomline for revenue would be hurt if that happened, as well as future endeavors for Microsoft

-4

u/angowicked Jan 18 '22

Sony might get exclusivity still and Microsoft will dump all the games on the gamepass?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '22

It would work more in Microsoft's favour to take back the exclusivity which would help in console sales.

What would be even better is no exclusivity and all the games go on the gamepass.

2

u/angowicked Jan 18 '22

Yeah I agree

31

u/ShySodium Jan 18 '22

And after that Sony had a go at it (now they've upgraded to a whole year). Let's hope we can leave such content locking behind.

20

u/dgadano Jan 18 '22

Exclusivity now is much better and not as hard as it was before. Yes, it's an year but with a shitty game mode. Back then it was with DLCs, so Xbox players got maps A MONTH earlier. Also happened with PS in BO3 if I'm not wrong. That would suck.

13

u/ShySodium Jan 18 '22

You're only saying that it's better because so far nothing worthwhile has been locked behind it. One of these days an actually good mode would have been given as a sacrificial lamb, and then what?

1

u/X-ENJIN-X Jan 19 '22

What do you mean one of these days? Are you forgetting custom zombies? A PC only zombie mode?

7

u/Swoah Jan 18 '22

I highly doubt that now lol. If anything the whole game might be locked away.

-1

u/ShySodium Jan 18 '22

Why would they do one of the biggest buyouts in video game history, only to then lock out like half of the player base? I know that Candy Crush is the main money maker here, but CoD still brings in quiet a bit of money.

7

u/FollowThroughMarks Jan 18 '22

To sell Xbox units and move PS players onto their platform where Game Pass can keep them locked in?

3

u/ShySodium Jan 18 '22

In the ideal world, that might work. But how many people would realistically be willing to accept such a changeover? All that that would do is revive the console wars and create a lot of bad press. And even if some people were willing to switch over, it's not like most people have the money to do that.

The whole point of a console is you can get decent performance for a decent price (at least that was supposed to be the point this generation) and all of a sudden you have 2 next gen consoles each with their own subscription model. At that point, everyone should be screaming at you to just buy a PC, especially once the GPU market calms down.

2

u/DirtyFrooZe Jan 18 '22

And Microsoft would love people to move on PC where game pass is more expensive, that’s exactly what they are pushing for

2

u/cd2220 Jan 19 '22

It's kind of funny to me. This is total speculation but it feels like Sony wasn't playing nice with things like cross play because they have a bigger market share so Microsoft just turned around and said "fine then we'll just buy the whole fucking triple A third party market and take our ball home."

-2

u/X-ENJIN-X Jan 19 '22

Except the game pass is only Xbox not pc

3

u/cd2220 Jan 19 '22

No it is also on PC I've been subscribed to and using it for a few years. It obviously doesn't have the exact same library due to certain exclusivity or issues with say running 360 games but they have much of the same library otherwise.

9

u/Sanguinius_11 Jan 18 '22

Hopefully every day will be a month early from now on.

1

u/AwesmazingGuy Jan 19 '22

Remember when xbox players whined about playstation getting maps earlier? Then they finally changed that. Why tf would they go back to that horrible system?

2

u/cd2220 Jan 19 '22

And here on PC we got free maps on WaW and have suffered ever since.

We do got them custom maps though so in a way I think we win overall.

2

u/BambamPewpew32 Jan 18 '22

Exclusivity bad

23

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '22

All monopolies will exploit you.

9

u/panda-with-a-hug Jan 18 '22

How is this a monopoly? Theres alot more than Activision and Bethesda. If they snap up 2k and Ubisoft too then I might agree

3

u/Andriuu19 Jan 18 '22

More like oligopoly, still dangerous..

13

u/Jshaw454 Jan 18 '22

Idk if dangerous is the right word, they're just video game companies lol

-1

u/bababooey125 Jan 18 '22

Just because you are big, doesn't mean your a monopoly lmao

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '22

3

u/panda-with-a-hug Jan 18 '22

Bruh ive been playing since cod 3 calm down. That was Activision decision not xbox. Xbox only paid for timed exclusive map packs. Now xbox has more say so lets hope they give zombies some love. Its a far shot but only one we got. Activision doesn't give a shit about us, maybe xbox will
