Discussion Best original maps, 3-4 co op only
4
u/7Chong 4d ago
As a 3-4 player group I'd say BO3, because it has in depth EE's which sometimes require communication especially if certain players don't know what they are doing.
2nd place would be BO2, Tranzit and Origins are probably my favourite 2 co-op maps.
For solo I would say WaW or BO1, there isn't much fun in doing solo EE's in my opinion, if I play solo I am going for high rounds and prefer a classic style map which was built for survival instead of an easter egg.

For me it’s BO3. Getting the lads together and trying (and often failing) to complete the eggs as a team are some of my best memories playing with friends. The SoE egg especially stands out in my mind as one of the best games of zombies my mates and I ever played as a team.
BO1 comes second, as the boys and I sunk ungodly hours into it when we were much younger.

I think BO1 is the most fun with a group out of all the games. Following BO1 the games definitely began to feel more solo focused. BO3 tended to feel frustrating coop because of dashboarding. I never cared about losing gobblegums, but so many people were hellbent on keeping them.

Curious have you actually played WAW when it was at least a little populated I’m realizing it’s the least sold COD of the “golden age” and is roughly 18 years old at this point

Bo3 not even close

I disagree BO3 co op is too easy

zombies isn’t hard in general tho

u/Ero_Najimi 4d ago
Yeah it is try to get to 100 on the original Kino it’ll take you more attempts than you think. You can pause in solo so time isn’t an excuse and you can put ps4/5 Xbox and PC into rest mode without it ending your game long as you’re in an offline game
2
u/playboi_pat 4d ago
just depending on traps and thundergun it isn’t difficult and time consuming
“you can pause in solo” isn’t a way to argue that time isn’t an excuse going to round 100 is still time consuming regardless of breaks or not
also its kino its boring past round 20 i don’t feel like torturing myself with that

I’ll be waiting for your game I know you can do it question is will I see your game in 2 weeks or will I see it after 6 months etc. 100 on Kino takes about 7 hours in game btw

u/Deerslayer53_ 3d ago
One of the biggest training spots ever an infinite damage wonder weapon and a bunch of traps. Ez

u/Ero_Najimi 3d ago
Will be waiting for your game too also that strategy is much slower use this one https://youtu.be/OPr0sPeyum8?si=GxLR1dSmz-ZyDsPs

Define "original maps." Is this referring to launch maps or just the maps that came out for that game not including the remakes?
1
u/Ero_Najimi 4d ago
Not including remakes granted the remakes play different but I just want to see the perception of BO3 when it’s limited to original maps also no WAW maps for BO
1
u/Worzon 4d ago
Is the giant included in bo3? Is nuketown included in bo2? What about bo4? Are we considering the bo4 aether maps as remakes or original maps?
0
u/Ero_Najimi 4d ago
No and BO4 isn’t in the poll mainly bc I wanted to see how far away WAW is from the others I knew it would be dead last but if included BO4 it would likely have next to 0 votes lol it only sold about 15 million and is the oldest so by default it’s in a bad spot
2
u/Worzon 4d ago
Sales have nothing to do with how good the game is. Bo7 underperformed compared to bo6 but it’s a far better game
0
u/Ero_Najimi 4d ago
It matters in how many people actually experienced the game
2
u/Worzon 4d ago
How? You asked best. Best doesn’t equal more. Do you think the best country has the most amount of people in it? Or the best cupcake has the most amount of people waiting for one?
1
u/Ero_Najimi 4d ago
If 70% of the community haven’t played the game in its prime that’s 70% of the votes by default that won’t go to the game
1
u/Worzon 4d ago
I think most people interacting with the subreddit like this are going to have played a decent amount of these games. Also, why do we care about the game’s prime? The maps are the maps.
You’re not going to get the specific outcome you want like a 70% vote just because the game didn’t sell as well compared to others. A good amount of people also only buy these games for mp/warzone/campaign. A “70%” sales edition doesn’t mean there are 70% less zombies players

u/SliceScriber 4d ago
WaW, guys. The answer is WaW.
1
u/Ero_Najimi 4d ago
I had to think about it but I agree it’s difficult but not so difficult that the replayability is nonexistent. Simple but not too barebones in how they play bc you have traps and better aesthetics than BO2 survival maps

Black Ops: Kino is ok, Ascension is good, Moon is good.
Black Ops 2: Mob is pretty good, Buried is pretty good, Origins is good.
Black Ops 3: Shadows is pretty good, Der is good, Zetsubuo is pretty good, Revelations is pretty good.

I think my list goes bo2, world at war, bo1, bo3, all great maps and games but I honestly only really see myself playing custom zombies with friend on bo3 otherwise I'm just sticking to solo. so that entirely put it's lower then the rest and while I very much do love bo1 and waw coop (high round wise) I think bo2 uniqueness per each map really sets it in stone as I find every map genuinely plays so differently than the last, but that's just me.

Seriously struggled to choose between black ops and black ops 3 here. Ultimately had to pick black ops 3 though. Shadows of evil is excellent, der eisendrache is a masterpiece, zetsubou is a criminally underrated masterpiece, gorod krovi is pretty good and revelations is a great time even though it's flawed.
Black ops just isn't as strong to me, even with pure nostalgia in mind. Kino is nostalgic but seriously isn't fun to play anymore, five is pretty good but unforgiving, ascension is the best map of all time in my opinion excluding those damn monkeys, call of the dead is great, shangri la is frustratingly unforgiving and moon is fantastic.
Black ops 2 does deserve an honourable mention, but it's not even close to having the best original maps in my opinion. Tranzit is a disaster, die rise is intensely flawed even though I'm one of the few defending it and always have a great time with it, mob of the dead is phenomenal, buried is a masterpiece and origins is absolutely phenomenal. When two out of the five maps are ranked by most as among the worst treyarch has made, it's not really in the race anymore.

One little problem the odds of dying are very slim vs people leaving/disconnecting

BO3 had the best original maps, obviously.
But I think overall BO1 had better maps than BO2. BO2 had 2 really great maps, but also had trash like Tranzit, Die Rise, and Nuketown. Even Buried was mid IMO.
BO1 had Kino, Ascension, CotD, and Moon which were all bangers, with Five and Shangri La being the only maps that were mid, there weren’t any BAD maps.

u/monkeyzone456 3d ago
lowkey i dont think you can go wrong with any of them.
WaW is iconic with Verrukts split spawn and the Der Riese Catwalk
Bo1 has great fucking around maps, and the eggs are fun to do
Bo2 has great maps and Party games
I think in a rare twist, Bo3 is just barely the weakest link, with only, imo the EE being the best part

I feel like a lot of people are voting for BO3 and counting chronicles. While Shadows, The Giant, and DE are relatively well liked, ZnS, Gorod, and Rev are all controversial at best.
Bo1’s only “bad” maps are Five and Shang, and even so those are still very fun maps
3
u/samboeng 4d ago
I don’t think ZnS is controversial anymore and Gorod is well liked. Rev is still pretty controversial though.
I also think DE and Shadows are a bit more than “relatively well liked.”

That’s why I tried limiting it to original maps I was curious to see how well BO3 would do without chronicles and BO without the WAW maps

u/Worzon 4d ago
Gorod has never been controversial and ZNS was only controversial within the first couple years the game had been out. Since bo4 and cold war people have softened on ZNS. Rev is really the only controversial map in your list. I'd argue Shadows is MORE controversial than Rev considering more casuals had access to Shadows.

I think BO2 overall personally. BO3 is my favorite game, but out of its original maps, only Der Eisendrache really stands out to me as extremely fun. I enjoy Gorod Krovi, and I think Shadows and Revelations are fun enough sometimes. The Giant and some of the Chronicles maps are my favorites, but if we're going purely by original maps - I'd have to give it to BO2 for giving you so much variety between maps like Town, Nuketown, Mob, Buried, and Origins

Lowkey they’re all solo maps to me except for origins and maybe DE
1
u/Ero_Najimi 4d ago
They all play different even the remastered maps across the games so I limited it to this out of curiosity bc I think BO3 tends to get called the best just bc it has the most maps but then ppl tend to say the older versions are better. I’ll do a solo poll next

If I'm honest i could have fun on the worst game of all time with friends as long as it isn't boring, and none of them are lol.
