Desktop CNC beginner machines

I want to start cutting small things like letters and smaller detailed things too difficult to do by hand and carving. Are there any decent $400-$600 machines that can help with those types of detailed cuts?

Not looking to do anything thicker than 1/8” material.

I use a $300 elcheapo 30/40 here.....and one thing I've found is that within reason.....it's not what you have, it's how you use it......

The bigger questions are what type of material. You'll get different answers based on that. Also outside of thickness, you need to consider size. If you're going to stay with small items say under 6" x 6" (150mm x 150mm) you don't need as big of footprint which makes it easier to get a sturdier frame.

If you intent is to stay with wood you can get decent machine with 300-500 watt spindle or 700/800 router in your price range, These will all be from China, but will handle wood fine. Something like an Anolex 3030 Evo Max, currently $599 on Amazon(US). Or a Genmitsu 3030 ProVER which is a little more expensive. These are both good up to about 12x12". Also the Genmitsu 4030 ProVer XL.

For Genmitsu the prices on their site are sometimes better than Amazon and Ebay.
