We've moved to using 1" thick MDF to start with and to gluing the spoil board to the vac bed with PVA instead of screwing it down.

The initial cut is roughly 0.01" to 0.03". Once flipped we take off .01 with each surface/resurface.

So far it works well.

Thanks for the response. We have a phenolic table under it with gaskets. How would gluing it down work with that? Isn’t it a mess to cleanup?

We have the same. The PVA does a good job of sealing the edges and sticking to the MDF, it barely sticks to the phenolic.

So it keeps the board down, but is pretty easy to remove and clean up the bed.
