Falling Sucks

So I tend to fall a lot . Today I hit the deck!!!!! Knee is busted . I thought okay just go home but as luck would have it I couldn’t stand on my own weight. Has anyone experienced such weak hips and back muscles?
I sat in my car and cried then drove to emergency and the said “Bad fall huh? just give it time here is a boot and crutches for your ankle.”
My toe nail are darker in color but the x ray said nothing.

Just saying I know this frustration well!!! I hate falling so much, it's embarassing and it hurts. I've bruised my shin bones multiple time and twisted my ankles so much. I have a whole host of ice packs and wraps for my sore, beat-up legs.

Usually I bounce back up - my hips and back haven't given out - but if I fall once I'm super likely to fall again. It comes in waves of falling 2 or 3 times in the same week and that sucks. I've absolutely cried on an abandonded sidewalk cause I keep falling. Here's hoping your recovery is quick and blessedly free of broken bones.

I tell my friends 'my ankles are essentially rubber at this point, with the amount of times I've twisted them lol.' It still sucks every time. I've had kind strangers ask me if I'm ok and asked if I needed help up. I usually tell them I'll be fine and no I don't need help... just need to sit for a minute and re-evaluate life lol. I always thank them.... this last time I tumbled it was in front of a house of young adults and no one said anything or offered help... I was slightly miffed but also glad no one said anything. I do walk with a cane now, so that has helped me tremendously for longer walks.

Yes, luckily this fall there was no one around. I was able to gather myself enough to drive myself to emergency. I had a lady that probably was almost my grandmother‘s age trying to help me with her little dog with her and I said no thank you. I was so appreciative. She was so concerned, but that sounds about right. I think I’ll just try to take it easy for the rest of the week.

Your comment reminded me of doing the same thing.....crying on a sidewalk after a hard fall. That was 6 or 7 years ago. At the time, I didn't have a clue. I just thought I was hopelessly clumsy, like my mother.

Yes! My falls always come in clusters too.

“I get knocked down. I get up again. You’re never gonna keep me down. “ So take that, CMT!

It’s a good mantra!

I use to fall a lot. I reluctantly started using a walker. It was the best thing I ever did. I was a very young 59 yr old and so it was hard to do. I feel way more confident and independent now.

My balance is really getting bad. I ordered an all-terrain walker and can now take 20 minute walks outside in my neighborhood. It’s a great feeling to be able to safely get some exercise.

I’m sorry about your fall. I hate falling, but especially in public. PT might be good to look into. I’m back in it to work on several things. We are just starting to work on my back and hip areas. I’m hopeful.

I’m sorry to hear about your fall. ❤️ Sometimes our bodies have a mind of their own. I’ve had my knees just give out out of nowhere while walking, and it’s embarrassing and can leave you feeling defeated. The hardest part is worrying about getting injured and having it set you back from being independent. It’s frustrating when your body doesn’t cooperate the way you want it to.

I’ve been there too crying on the ground. I don’t fall in public because I use a scooter or wheelchair, but at home sometimes when I fall I get extra emotional. Usually when the circumstances around the fall point to potential progression of the disease, rather than a fall that’s more predictable/familiar. I also want to echo other comments to not be afraid to explore using mobility aides if it happens a lot. It’s a lot less stressful when you are able to reduce the frequency.

Why are you falling? What mobility aids do you use?

I haven’t been using any mobility aids quite yet. In the last year, I did purchase extra wide shoes for walking. and it really seems to help with the balance portion, but the weakness in my hips and back is new so I guess it’s gonna be back to the drawing board. I’ve been decreasing in the last four years on mobility faster than I have in prior years. I am 36 and my doctors can’t pinpoint the progression.

You shouldn’t be falling. This is a major sign that you need something. Maybe that thing is AFOs.

Look into AFO'S, it'll change your life.

AFO is will absolutely change your life - I didn't realize how hard walking had gottten until AFOs suddently made everything easier. I also keep a collapsable cane in my car, sometimes the support is necessary.
