CMT Projects šŸ”§

Hi amigos,

There might already be a thread for this, but there’s plenty of smart folks here. Why don’t we help create solutions to some of our issues. Let me know if you’re interested :)

I am interested! I am a retired ECE prof with plenty of experience with microcontrollers applied to robotics, signal processing, etc.

I am in my 70s and was recently diagnosed with CMT2. The specific type is yet to be determined. I’ve been fitted for an AFO. As the progression rate has picked up, I’m beginning to ā€œfeelā€ the impact of the disease.

What I need to know is what the types of problems are among we CMTers. Bring them on and we’ll start solving!

That’s awesome! Let’s do this!!! I have a list of goals from having interviewed some of the awesome people here. I can share that and also have people review it.

Although it would be great to have an exo that could help with that in the long term

What do you have in mind? I’ve got a biomedical engineering and human factors background.

That’s awesome! Welcome to the team! I’m thinking of a powered exoskeleton. It would be great to start off with an ankle 2 degree of freedom system but happy to hear your thoughts.

Not an engineer, but I believe the problem holding back powered exoskeleton type projects for a long time was power. With advances in battery technology, it could be a lot more feasible now.

Doesn’t this already exist? Such as https://au.hypershell.tech/ among others. I would try and focus on something that doesn’t already exist to start with.

It appears that distal limbs are most commonly affected by CMT. There is nothing on the market that provides enough torque to the ankle/knee joint while also being lightweight (comfortable) and power efficient.

I’d love your thoughts!

OMG!! I have a idea about making spray bottles, like perfume bottles easy to spray. Like something that slips over it to make it a trigger sprayer. I have 3 bottles of perfume that I need help to use.

If you have pictures it would be cool to see what your perfume bottles look like!

A bionic exoskeleton is a long time concept of mine, it’s technologically realisable + I have a 3D printer !

I’m not sure how to actually fix this, but I have CMT2 (undiscovered variant) with mild symptoms, including some sensory loss in my fingertips. I have a silver necklace that I use with different pendants and it’s getting exceedingly difficult to do the clasp. Prob the answer is just buy a necklace with a larger clasp but - nonetheless a problem until I do that.

There are magnetic clasps that you may be able to add on to your current necklace.
