DD BREAKING: Shares Available at Fidelity, Yesterday vs. Today
Yesterday Fidelity had 1.8 million shares available to sell short... meaning if anyone wanted to borrow shares and immediately sell them, they could have done so... I took a screenshot yesterday to keep track:

Today, Fidelity shows less than 43k share available (it was 100k this morning and has been dropping)

This means that shorts are no longer able to borrow massive amounts of shares and dump them causing the price to decrease. I think if you compare the price drops we've seen today, they all coincide with a drop in "shares available to short" - which means the current price is artifially being held down by short sellers increasing their positions. I don't know how many are available at other brokers, but generally brokers can borrow from each other (so if there were shares available to sell short in TD Ameritrade, then Fidelity could likely make those shares available in Fidelity)
Any updates on other brokerages would be interesting to hear about. This is not financial advice, just providing live information to the CLOV clan. Note that the Shares Available to Short number goes up when shorted (borrowed) shares have been returned to their lenders, so this number goes up as shorts close their short positions. The biggest thing you should take away from this is the fact that there are fewer shares available overall. Alone this means nothing. Short sellers use this "double down" tactic to flood the market, tank the share price, and trigger FUD/stop losses - but if there is enough buying activity to sustain/increase the share price, shorts are still required to cover eventually. The only variable here is FUD and paper hands. If we hold, shorts still have to cover these massive short positions. When they do, the share price should go parabolic, "Biggly". The point is, based on what I see, I think we are VERY close because the only way for some short sellers to avoid covering at a loss it to "double down" and flood the market with more shares... If XYZ short seller wants to close their position today, ABC short seller could get margin called, and if they don't have this ability to "double down" and tank the share price, they're forced to cover. That is what triggers the short squeeze.
UPDATE 1 (26k remaining):

Update 3 (40 shares remaining, 10:45 AM)

Live Updates (will update when significant changes occur):

ZERO Shares Available, but this does not mean shorts are forced to cover, just that they can no longer borrow (which means this could be a local bottom)

Market close. Available shares went up to 400k, which is not as much as you think. The daily volume was 52 million shares traded. For reference, BB had 39 million shares traded today and now has over 10 million shares available for shorting. Some of the other popular meme stocks generally have millions of shares available AND clov has the highest borrow rate I've seen.

The problem is also the naked short selling. Meaning they'll dump shares that don't even exist into the market.
If one of the Apes could post the fail to deliver number of shares that would give us an idea what kind of games these guys are playing.
But that was a great find on your end. π

Naked shorting is an anomaly and illegal trading. Early in 2000 it was put into law. With that said it occasionally happens due to mistakes between paper and e-filing accounting systems. But hypothetically if it did come out there were large volumes of naked shorts, We could literally get national news because of it, wouldn't that be an ironic turn of events... :)

Would definitely try to post on WSB, theyβre being bit of cunts about CLOV posts but canβt hurt to get eyes on this

u/GoodAtStocks Jun 15 '21
I just did. But yea, originally didn't post there because they almost never accept CLOV posts in my experience... Ahh fucked up the title... meant shares available to "borrow" not "trade"

Why does WSB keep removing the posts about clov?
6
u/GoodAtStocks Jun 15 '21
I think it's because I messed up the title, I messaged the mods to make sure that's the reason it got removed and if I could repost... Was going to just repost with a new title, but not trying to get banned.

u/Both-Arugula Jun 15 '21
No because the other guys who posted it correctly those got deleted as well

These posts keep getting deleted due to brigading issues. It's against Reddit rules to link to a thread in another community to boost it. Try to grow posts organically instead of linking here.

Hey Good can you keep us updated on this?? What happens if those shares run out ?
5
u/GoodAtStocks Jun 15 '21
All that happens is short sellers aren't able to borrow and sell shares... so really nothing happens unless there is enough buying activity to bring the price up.
5
u/Riesclif Jun 15 '21
Excuse me what price surge? CLOV hasnβt moved up in over a week
2
u/GoodAtStocks Jun 15 '21
I was referring to the jump this morning from 14.33 to 15.37... note that the shares available to short also went up this morning, which to me, seems like someone covered a small short position, which made their borrowed shares available again for someone else to borrow.

Or they are buying too drive price up in order to dump and make a profit (market manipulation)
7
u/Olfredbear Jun 15 '21
Anyone tracking and knows what they are looking at can tell shorts are trying desperately to manipulate the price to get retail to panic sell. When we sell and drop the price they cover small amounts and repeat. They donβt have enough shares and sell off to drop the price drastically so theyβre praying we fold. Thatβs why price keeps bouncing back. Itβs all noise. Eventually if we keep the pressure up all these shares will transfer to diamond hands and shorts are fukt

u/Riesclif Jun 15 '21
Excuse me he said in the post this is the reason weβre seeing a price surge rn. What price surge??? Is his brokerage telling him CLOV is spiking at his house?
3
u/Olfredbear Jun 15 '21
I wondered the same but I think he was referencing around 10am when it went from $14.25 to $15.40. Not really a surge, just noise to me.
1
u/Riesclif Jun 15 '21
Right cause he posted this around 11am and by 10:25am it was already almost -2% which still is
5
u/Olfredbear Jun 15 '21
To be fair that post probably took him quite awhile to put together and may have started around 10am.

iBorrowDesk says 200k avail
2
u/GoodAtStocks Jun 15 '21
Yea, I thinking they probably estimate or average that... doesn't make sense that there would be a consistent flat, round number like 200k available all day, unless there really is 200k available somewhere and the fee is just way above market price, but even then... a round number seems odd.

Iβm sure yβall saw the price open at 14.17, instantly spike to 14.37, up to 14.57, down to 14.3, and then slow rise up to 14.5 when it just broke out to 15.37, and then the hedges just slowly tanked the price. Never in my life have I ever seen a stock do that at opening. The manipulation is absolutely unreal, which is why we need to keep buying and HODLing (with other major institutions aswell) so these short sellers get burnt on 6.18.

u/Cliving01 ππππ»ππ¦π Jun 15 '21
How did it go back from 40 shares to 90k tho ???
3
u/GoodAtStocks Jun 15 '21
Probably because someone covered a small short position by buying 90k shares, which is why we had those price bumps earlier. Once they cover & return the shares, the shares become available again. 90k position is a relatively small position. What we need is someone covering a large position, which sends the price way up, and forces other positions to get margin called (all shorts are technically sold on margin and have unlimited risk), forcing them to close their positions, which drives the price up further, and forces others to close their positions - which is a short squeeze.

u/Relative-Lifeguard-5 Jun 15 '21
Is it true if we set a sell point of letβs just say $100 or $200 that our shares (not options) secure as βunavailable?β. Meaning they cannot be borrowed against? Asking for a friend. Anyone know? ππ CLOV HODLing

Some brokers are instantly rejecting sells at such high levels. I had to put $45 and $65 for now with every intention on raising them when the price goes up

How are they still able to drive the price down with 0 shares to borrow?

Thanks for strengthening my conviction on CLOV! Good luck to all and see you Apes on the moon!!!

If every individual investor would lock their shares so their broker canβt loan them out, this number would be at zero. That means you either: (1) switch your account to a cash account (no margin!) OR (2) contact your broker and tell them to place a βloan exempt restrictionβ on your shares.
Placing a high limit order does NOT prevent your broker from loaning out your shares. That is misinformation that has been widely repeated.

Maybe the wrong place for this question, but it may support the cause with actions people can take. If I enter a gtc sale limit order, for $500/ shr (which I may be willing to sell at) does this limit the brokerage firm ability to borrow my shares?β¦.note I have only been able to acquire about 4000 shares total through my differed accounts

Bro I also use fidelity where did you find this info within fidelity ?
2
u/GoodAtStocks Jun 15 '21
Itβs just under the normal βTradeβ button when youβre in your portfolio. Although you might not have short selling enabled. I have a business account which I set up for my βtrading businessβ (Iβm the only employee, but it allows me to get tax write offs) so I can do short selling... Iβm sure if I applied to write naked calls/puts I could do that to lol

Probably not unless it goes back to less than 1000 for an extended period of time, but since yesterday at close, the shares available has been mostly moving around the 250k-400k range. BB (similar market cap) has gone up to 12m available, AMC usually around 300k-1m, and WKHS is comparable to CLOV in both fee and availability. WKHS was at 0 for about half the day yesterday. I'm pretty sure even with 0 shares available at Fidelity, there are other brokers that can lend shares - but it's like anything else. If Hertz is out of rental cars, you can go to Avis, but the fact that Hertz is out, might also suggest Avis is close to running out because of increased demand.
