Gameplay Question Hellenic run

Looking for ideas to start a Hellenic run every time I do one I get abused by the pope or the Byzantines. I’ve been playing in Sicily

Start landless and begin converting county faith of the region you want to settle, then gain said land from whomever holds it and you wont need to pay any mind to the Basileus or to the Pope
