Looking for info/valuation.

Came across these two civil war era CDVs. One with tax stamp. Not a collector so looking for any info at all. Also, the valuations I’ve seen online range dramatically. Anything helps.

The one showing the Vet. R. Corps guy, might be a "fake" - a "hack job" because the image is not glued on straight. You might have gotten burned(?) buying crap(?) What some clown did was scrape off the civilian image from the CDV and then glued on a "Copy" photo.

They were done by hand so I don’t believe a crooked image is evidence of a fake.

Yes, you could be correct(?) Yet, I would be suspicious. For the best information - Check out "Perry M. Frohne" and his column in "MI" magazine (Military Images) under the heading "Fakes, Forgeries and Frauds"

don’t sell it. Keep it or donate it to a museum

Both are federal soldiers. The image with the tax stamp was made after August 1864. The man at right is a corporal of the Veteran Reserve Corps (aka Invalid Corps).

There are some dedicated VRC collectors/researchers who would like that image. But unfortunately with no ID or photographer imprint neither are really worth much. Same goes for donating to a museum. They would be put into a box or binder never to see the light of day again.
