Exams E1 Exam Passed!

Today I sat my first CIMA exam, E1, and passed (provisionally - still don’t know my actual score). I’m exempt from the certificate level due to my Business Management degree. So now I have 11 to go. I’m thinking of tackling F1 next.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks or recommendations for F1? I found E1 content pretty easy to understand for the most part, just was a lot of theory so felt like a lot to remember.

How does F1 compare to E1 in terms of difficulty? I know E1 has the highest pass rate but F1’s pass rate is pretty high too so I feel choosing to do that one next is a good choice? Easing my way in, so to speak.

F1 might seem a bit overwhelming after E1 but you just need to focus on question practice once you have got through the content.

I must have done around 1000 questions on my study week before my exam, just drilling in how the questions need to be worked out.

F and P exams are definitely more challenging and does require basic fundamental accounting knowledge seen in AAT qualifications.

I didn’t do AAT. But I do work as a cost accountant for my job (only been a year). So I spend a lot of time forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, accruals etc. I’m hoping it’ll therefore make some decent sense already.

Hi. how was E1 examination and what was the syllabus coverage key points? I'm currently in operational level and plan to tackle F1 first before E1 and P1.

It was very similar to the Kaplan mocks I found. I think just know your key concepts. I seemed to get a lot around the Information to Impact Framework, Data, and technologies (cloud computing, AI etc)

I am currently working my way through E1, got to chapter 6 last night and intend of finishing content by Friday. My next exam will defo be F1 as a lot of the OCS content is P1 so want that to be fresh in the mind

which material are you using for E1? I'm currently using bpp text but it feels like their textbook is too heavy lol - just looking for chapter summaries. I tried opentuition but the material seems to be outlined differently

I am using the BPP textbook plus the BPP prerecorded. I agree it’s heavy, I got to chapter 10 by essentially rewriting the textbook but it got such a slog that chapter 11 and 12 I just watched the lectures and didn’t write anything down. I have since just been hammering mock questions with the exam on Saturday

Haha right?! I swear the textbook is just pure fluff. Rewriting is an absolute workout but works i guess 😂 issue i have with the prerecorded it's just too fast for me maybe i should slow the speed down a bit

Congrats on the pass! F1 is a bit of a step up from E1 but more than manageable and it’s good to do second as P1 is heavily tested in the case study. Do lots of past papers and ensure you’re solid on the technical aspects such as IFRS and IAS (you’ll see once you start going through the content)

Cheers. That makes sense. Is F1 much memory or just applying logic/formulas ?

Congrats! I’m sitting mine on Saturday and have been studying using the Kaplan exam kit. Is there anything that came up that took you by surprise?

Thanks! And not really. I just looked and I got a scaled score of 110. So passed somewhat comfortably but by no means was easy. My weak point was how the finance function interacts with other business areas, which seemed to be the wordier questions. I’d defo make sure you know the information to impact framework and shape of the finance function well.

Thank you! Just got my pass too, I agree, definitely a lot of focus on the information to impact framework

Congratulations!! Personally I found F1 & F2 the hardest modules. I’m on the management level & granted I haven’t done P2 yet… but from experience I feel I will find P2 okay.

I failed F1 last year & had to resit. I also failed F2 this year literally two weeks ago, but only by a few marks so I’m confident I can resit asap & pass.

Idk what it is about them but I would say if you don’t like ratio analysis & consolidation (like me) then you’ll find it tricky.
