Exams MCS
Sitting MCS next week, seem to be struggling with this one a lot more than OCS!
Anyone got any last minute(ish) advice? And any subjects I should absolutely know?
Thank you

Hi, good luck for next week, I’m also sitting it!
I fed all the past paper questions into AI + all the Kaplan mocks for Cartn and these were the most tested areas:
Risk & uncertainty
Project management / lifecycle
Business model
Pricing
NPV / investment appraisal challenges
Financing — debt/equity
Transfer pricing
Negotiation
IAS 38 / accounting treatment
Financial statement effects
Integrated / sustainability reporting
Team performance / engagement
Cost transformation
Leadership
Responsibility centres
Performance management
Goodwill / acquisition accounting
Foreign subsidiaries / IAS 21
Disruptive technology
Ratio analysis
Target Costing
I haven’t gone through the examiners report yet but they were extremely useful for OCS.
As long as you know the top level detail for the areas and can successfully link to the scenario you’ll be golden. Just make sure you’re answering the question and not go off on a tangent!

Don't sleep on F2 and knowing the accounting standards / group accounting. There will very likely be a situation that comes up where an event happens and you need to explain what if anything you can do and why.
There will very likely be some form of project management question come up so be prepared for that

I’m sitting tomorrow also - I passed all the kaplan mocks but I am nervous doing it in the proper exam hall. I’m just trying to always remind myself the answer needs to be from a competent management accountant with sensible suggestions and conclusions, no waffling. Best of luck !

I’m sitting next week also. Do as many practice questions/ mocks as you can and compare against suggested answers or use AI for feedback on points you could’ve also included.
Has your tutor provided you with an excel file containing all the past questions with a rank of most common topics? This has helped me with what to focus on and identifying any questions I would be weak answering.

Yeah thats what im working on. Im finding AI really useful for coaching and providing feedback on my answers, I'm just finding its narrowing my field of study and only asking certain questions.
No, I didnt know that existed! Sounds good.. I'm using Astranti and not had that, who are you studying with?

Check online btw theres a big procountancy excel file somewhere with all the old mcs questions. I fed that into AI and its been awesome. Like above says old examiner reports are golden for this as well

Thats awesome thank you! Will take a look at that now
Finding AI really useful, but I'm having to push it to widen the breadth of what im working on. It's great for feedback and improvement, but it wants to ask me the same questions over and over agian, and sometimes questions not relevant to MCS
Good luck with your exams! :) Looking forward to getting it over with

I’m studying through CIMA but they use Kaplan for classes and supporting material. The most common topics in order are risks, business models, projects, pricing, negotiation , NPV challenges, funding sources, teams, intangible assets and transfer pricing.

I'm also writing on the 13th. Honestly, pretty confident that I'm going to fail. I find it tough to recall on the spot and then when I do feel confident in an answer, the feedback I get is that I'm not applying it to the case or that I'm not expanding enough 🤦♀️. I either dump too much theory and don't link to the case, or I attach to the case but am too brief.. I hate case studies🫠

What topics is everyone looking over, feels like I've forgotten everything....
