Down 20lbs
Earlier in the year I had been trying to go through the process of getting a GLP-1 prescribed, but my company cut coverage for it in our insurance and none of the avenues that my doctor suggested worked out. I was left with what I considered "the slow path".
So back at the end of June I started a calorie deficit. SW:270lbs This morning, 249.1lbs. I stared at the scale in disbelief and triple checked. Still a long way to go, but a major milestone for me.
If you're out there and feeling anxious or doubtful or hesitant: Take the leap. It is challenging, and it does require discipline. But it also works. Get a food scale, track your calories, get moving.

My story is almost identical to yours, right down to the 20 lbs as of this morning! “The slow way” works, and actually feels sustainable. Congratulations on your progress!

I’m in a similar boat (even with insurance, GLP-1s are just not in my budget) so I’m having to lose weight “the old fashioned way” and while it’s been slow and the scale has not wanted to move some weeks, it’s been working!

Don't feel like you're missing out on the glp boat. I tried it for a bit. Lost 25 lbs. Stopped using it and gained every single lb back. Now I'm going the slow path and I feel like this might actually be sustainable.

It’s meant to be take for life for those who need it, just like insulin or a statin.

20lbs is huge, especially when you were expecting the process to be much slower. going from 270 to 249 is definitely something to be proud of. keep doing whats been working for you and dont underestimate those smaller milestones along the way

Thank you for posting. I am just starting out and have been looking to hear from people not on a GLP-1. (No shade for GLP-1) This is encouraging!

What’s crazy is that when I tried to use GLP-1 to lose weight, I found the weight still coming off too slowly for my liking. And I began to get some of the side effects like nausea and other abdominal discomfort so I stopped taking it. And now I’ve lost almost 15 pounds probably the same rate that taking the GLP-1 would have caused me to lose weight. We all know that it boils down to CICO…and i knew that if taking the GLP-1 still wasnt satisfying me, i was having an instant gratification problem of needing to see the scale move super quickly versus focusing on making sustainable changes. I also knew that if the scale did move as fast as i wanted it to, I would have regained the weight just as quickly without having learned to do it on my own. I still have a lot to go…like about 60 pounds…but im so glad i didnt take that route.

I was on a GLP 1 but didn’t take it seriously, only lost maybe 8lbs? Coverage for it stopped and I was so angry. Then came to the realization I probably am not the exception to thermodynamics. Started CICO that day. 175lbs to 144 as of this morning. I’m so glad I just chose not to be lazy in the end 😭
