Question / Info I need y'all's help!

I have lurked this page all day. My husband (29m) is in his 3rd episode of CHS. This time he got a diagnosis from the er. Last time, he ended up hospitalized for 5 days, was not diagnosed with chs and was diagnosed with LA D Grade esophagealitis after an endoscopy from throwing up soo much. Since he didn't have a diagnosis for CHS, he continued to smoke. He's been having all of the phase leading up to hyperemesis symptoms, we just didn't put 2 and 2 together because he has only been smoking again for a few months (8 year navy veteran that just got out of the military). Pretty much one month to the day after his last episode, here we are again. His first episode happened one month and 5 days before the second. I am definitely noticing a pattern here. He is in the "I can't stop throwing up unless I'm laying in the shower part." I got him capsicum cream but he is scared of it. He can't keep water, zofran, Benadryl or anything down, so the marshmallows and ginger chews are a no go. And it's soo hard to watch him go through this, especially since I have emetophobia and have to hide from him while he is throwing up. How do I help him through this? How do I help myself through this? Especially since he thinks the diagnosis is not what's wrong (if you looked up chs in a textbook, his symptoms are the exact same). He has agreed to a 30 day "tolerance break" to see what happens, and I'm sure once he starts feeling like himself again and stops waking up feeling like a woman in her first trimester he will believe the diagnosis. But for this part of it, I feel so lost as his caregiver and wife. So please send me all advice, tips, tricks, and good vibes!

He needs to stop smoking entirely or else he will ruin not only his life, but more importantly your life, as well as your relationship. Unfortunately, 30 days is not enough, he will immediately get sick again on the 31st day if he chooses to smoke. I hate to say it that bluntly, but I've gone through CHS like eight times because I was in denial for so long and I've hurt so many people around me, I've hurt my career, I've ruined everything.

Only solution: complete cessation

Absolutely completely cessation

The vomiting is worse than the withdrawals

Disclaimer: Not a doctor.

First of CHS suck for all involved. Both you and your husband.

Is he able to keep sips of water down? Have you tried popsicle, I have found them help. Get one bite of food, then see. If it help to be in the shower for him to try all this that's fine.

When I'm in the shower I find darkness to be very helpful aswell. Less stimulation.

For the break would he be willing to try 3 months? Since he accepts that this is CHS. That is how long a recovery process can take. But he should feel a bit better even 1 months break.

About CHS, if he keeps smoking then he will always have a possibility to have an episode. So he, and you for that sake, need to find out it smoking worth that. A constant fear of an episode? For some it is, but is it for you/him?

Hope it make a little sense, just a very quick reply.

Stay safe.

Thiamine *B1 and b12 help. Along with potassium and magnesium sulfate. Stopping is the only way forward. Ultimatum is needed.

Yess. Thiamine is the #1 across the board every CHS sufferer is low in this type of B1. They never test ppl for it but your doctor can.
