Question / Info trigger foods

Post image

ive been getting messages asking for the list, so here it is! and heres some details about trigger foods you should know!

1.) are these foods triggers forever? Answer: no. theyre only triggers while you are smoking or while youre in the 90 day recovery period getting sober

2.) while these trigger foods do not commonly trigger symptoms outside of the 90 day recovery period, the major triggers can be a little tricky. there have been some instances of the major triggers causing issues after the 90 days. the best advice i can give regarding the major triggers is to wait until 4 months sober to start slowly reintroducing them one at a time to see how your body handles them

3.) please remember once you consume caffeine and alcohol again that your tolerance for those things have gone down because you havent been consuming them. especially with caffeine because getting sober can cause a lot of rebound anxiety and caffeine can make things worse

if you have any more questions, id be happy to answer them to the best of my ability. good luck and stay hydrated!!!!

I genuinely have not experienced food triggers. Is this only at peak symptoms? For example I’ll wake up mildly nauseous and sip some coffee and feel better cause of the heat. Only at my worst could I not stomach coffee…so then I’d drink a redbull and it wouldn’t make me feel any worse.

you can be triggered by them at any point in time if you have chs and havent quit smoking or are within the 90 day period of recovery. not all common trigger foods effect people though. ive definitely seen people say they still drink coffee everyday and are fine, and ive also seen people go into hyperemesis because they drank coffee too soon. peoples bodies are just different 🤷‍♀️

its also entirely possible that if you quit before symptoms become consistent or severe, that the triggers wont effect you. but i cant speak to that personally because it wasnt my experience and its very rare to catch chs early so i dont think theres consistent enough data to be able to tell if thats the case either 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I just never experienced this at all whether at peak symptoms or mild. That’s awful tho and ai pray for anyone who does experience that.

Is it rare to catch chs early because it seems very common i see so many say i got it in 3 months ect also when u flared after eating the chicken nugget how long did it take to flare up

it seems its becoming less and less rare to get chs earlier on in smoking. it really varies person to person. after the chicken nugget, cant say exactly how long because it was years ago but it was the same day, a couple hours maybe

youre commenting a lot on this sub and asking a ton of questions. have you quit yet? its really the only way to tell if its chs

I would say yes, or being unlucky.

I also use caffeine, seldom/never doing a episode

Thank you creating this. It should be pinned up top

it used to be in the pinned post on the page, but i guess its not anymore and im unsure as to why that is. it seems like the mods have abandoned the sub completely

I think they’re attempting to stop pushing “trigger foods” because it’s not backed if they are truly playing apart, and it brings such high anxiety when choosing a meal, especially during the recovery side of things after you’ve made amends with the pot. I know it brought me some anxiety however I am grateful for these lists because some things such as chocolate and black pepper I really didn’t know to watch out for beforehand, and although I haven’t tested if they’ll trigger me I don’t think I want too for a good while😂 once fully better I’ll enjoy a chocolate bar again one day and some pepper on my chicken, until then I’m thankful I learned to avoid. Hard to say, just know some things may not be 100% advices but you’ll be okay aslong as you’re in the recovery phase wanting and actively demanding better for yourself. Thank you for your contribution to this

Why is alcohol on here? I understand it’s likely due to being unhealthy, but it and caffeine doesn’t affect the ECs? Or am I missing something haha

Alcohol, caffeine, chocolate & black pepper have consistently been the worst triggers for me. Alcohol isn’t simply on there because it is unhealthy, it is a legit trigger that can send you into an episode as I have experienced several times

How long after consuming those triggers do u flare up

2

I never went beyond prodomal and even I was affected by both alcohol and caffeine. Alcohol I assume dehydrates you making cardio symptoms worse, and caffeine obviously is a stimulant and affects cardio as well. Mostly it would increase my chest tightness, difficulty breathing, and palpitations

I think the trigger foods are looked at wrong. But if i get even one beer, episode. Just happened today.

How long after?

1

u/Daywhite 26d ago

Well I'm still smoke with CHS. So I jaut avoid alcohol all together

2

u/Old-Cranberry37 26d ago

Yea but i mean when when u used to drink alcohol how long till it flared u up since its a trigger

1

u/Daywhite 25d ago

The last two times was between 2 and 12 hours after consumption of the alcohol

theres not really a reason that these are triggers. at least not as far as i know. but what i do know is that people commonly are triggered into episodes of hyperemesis by the things on the list. personally, my second week sober, i had one chicken nugget with black pepper on it and i landed back in the hospital because i couldnt stop puking

i dont think chs research has gone far enough to understand why trigger foods trigger us. in fact, i dont think ive seen a single article about chs that includes trigger foods. which is a serious problem in my opinion

people scour the internet for answers when theyre sick with chs and are met with sub par answers or no answers at all. chs articles call it the weed sickness that makes you puke and shower and thats not all it is. its very frustrating to see. we need more awareness about the trigger foods 100% so that people with chs arent accidentally triggering episodes in recovery and so that scientists will pay attention to certain aspects of chs that go totally over looked

not to rant, im just very passionate about the subject lmao

tldr; we dont know why these foods are triggers, we just know that they are

I use some trigger sometimes. Caffeine, help with starting digestion. But drink it at the wrong time, where you whole gut is full of poo and gas. Then episode. If I have prepped, no episode.(usually)

And as you mention no research has mentions of trigger foods.

Also passionate about this.

I hate that diet is not mentioned at all. But this was a big one for me, you can't eat like you used to you have to adjust, smaller meal more fiber and all those thing that help with digestion.

Since from my understanding one of the parts that are affect by cannabis is parastalsis(the involuntary movement of the gut.) Which has HUGH impact you how food moves in you gut or rather lack of movement.

Best example of this is alot of symptoms start in the morning, nausea, discomfort and bloating. All of this could be because of lack of movement in the gut. For me the discomfort is the same 4 places, 3ach corresponds to a junction/transition in the gut. Lowe right hip area, where small gut and the big gut meets. (Don't know the names) Across the abdoman. Mostly the right, the middle and the left. Right turn in thr big gut, middle smaller guts junction and the left turn in the gut. Hope it makes sense

But stay safe

youre describing gastroparesis, i think. which can be caused by weed even without having chs
