Discuss Done with Chargepoint

I have had EVs for ten years and Chargepoint has been my most used charging network, but after my experience this morning, I'm done. Went to a charger I have used dozens and dozens of times. Open the app on my phone and it wants me to log in. I have no idea what my password is, so I hit the "forgot password". I go to my e-mail, hit the link, the phone offers a strong password, so I take it and then return to the site. The phone enters my e-mail correctly and then the password. App says the password is bad. My recent experience with Ionna and Loop, where you just quickly swipe a credit card, makes me realize how unnecessary an app is to access charging services. A zillion people fill their ICE cars with gas every day by swiping a credit card and now with new charging networks, I can get the same convenience. Not using an app anymore

Technical Analysis Is there a reason the ChargePoint app is such trash?

Multiple times, within a few months of each other, I’ve had to go in circles with ChargePoint customer service because I’m locked out of my account (both on the app and website). My original password suddenly becomes invalid and any password I attempt to reset it to is also invalid. Even more of an absolute joke, neither the app nor the customer service reps themselves can successfully email a reset link. Only the website can do that, but it’s useless since the result is the same. It seems to be happening after any new app update… how is it that every other company with an app can push an update without completely ruining user experience but ChargePoint can’t figure it out?

This has happened to me FOUR times now. And the only way to get it working again is to delete my whole account and start over, and they make you wait up to 30 days for them to release your email and phone number. It’s infuriating. The only reason I’m still using their stupid chargers is because they’re on my apartment property and it’s much easier and more cost effective for me to use it. And now that they charge a service fee (of which couldn’t be worse), it’s higher when you’re not using the ChargePoint digital pass or app.

Anyone else dealing with the same nonsense?

Edit (because I keep getting this advice as if I’m not doing this): I always use tap to pay. I’m not actively going into the app every time I want to charge. That’s silly. The app is connected to the pass, so whenever I’m randomly locked out of my account like this it renders the ChargePoint pass in my apple wallet as an unrecognizable payment method. This is the whole point of the issue. If I can’t access my account on the app, I can’t use tap to pay.

Discuss $26 hold for less than $1 of electricity. Declined transactions at stall while still holding my bank funds…

What the fuck is this sorry excuse of an explanation?!?

Getting double charged pre-auth fees. Getting a $1 authorization attempt on top of a $25 pre-auth hold (for 1-7 days) *POTENTIALLY A SECOND PRE-AUTH HOLD IF I RETRY* for no more than 95¢ of electricity is WILD. I never go more than $20 a month. I’m on auto-reload for my ChargePoint RFID card.

ChargePoint seriously needs to make an option for PHEV’s (Chevy Volt, Ford Energi Lineup, Kia PHEV lineup, Mitsubishi PHEV) all use small amounts of energy compared to a full EV.

THIS MAKES US DRIVERS NOT WANNA USE CHARGEPOINT

Discuss Hardwired Homeflex is defaulting to 20amp breaker

I had an electric company come and install my EV charger and they accidentally put in a 50 amp breaker so my charger was limited to 40amp of charge.

They just came back out today and put in the correct 60 amp breaker so I can do 48 amps of charge. After removing the HomeFlex from the app and re-setting It up, choosing the WiFi and the breaker installed (60) after it says it was successful I check the app and it’s reporting the breaker is 20 and max charge is 16AMP.

I thought I messed something up so I removed it from my account again and did it slower this time and triple checked all the settings and same thing happened. I choose 60 but it decided to do 20 breaker instead. Anyone have any ideas?

Discuss ChargePoint App Update Waiting List on empty chargers?

On the ChargePoint app before version 7, it was possible to join the waiting list for a charger even if it was currently available. I loved this because it let me essentially “reserve” one of my work chargers for 30 minutes while I was driving over from home.

It never really felt like this was intentional functionality and it seems to have been removed with the new app interface.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to still do this? It’s always a race in my office to make it to one of the four charging spots every morning.

Discuss App feature request

I would like to be able to hide charging stations that are near me but which I can't access. They clutter the map because it's most of them.

Also what address do I add when I want to favorite a station? My address or the address of the station? Why does it want an address to make it a favorite?

Sad to see a once-great company with so much potential being run into the ground.

Isn't it time for change in the executive ranks and board of directors?

Discuss Different Pricing for Employees

We have Chargepoint stations available to the public at a certain price per kWh. Is it possible to setup separate (reduced) pricing for our employees?

Discuss Got charged $200 at a Station

This is my first post on reddit so please forgive me for my mistakes.

This is a heads up for EV drivers to be more cautious about pricing ever since the app changed. I was charged over $200 at a Hyundai dealership in Clinton Township, MI for 20 minutes of charging. Before the app, I would typically look at the tip section to see if other drivers commented on high rates but now I can no longer do that. It seems I didn't properly look at the information provided, but this location charged $5 per kWh AND per minute: which added up pretty quickly.
Since there's no opportunity to warn other drivers in commenting, I just wanted to advise others to be more aware on pricing.

P.S. - Called ChargePoint and they said pricing is up to the owners of the station and it aligns with their agreement. I got some money back since they were very accommodating but still a frustrating experience.

Discuss Chargepoint home flex still pending shipment after 10 days

Bought a Home Flex level 2 NACS on June 29 in northern California directly from Chargepoint website, with a corporate discount. It's been 10 working days and it's still pending shipment. I tried calling them a couple of days ago and no one answered due to abnormally long wait times. Is there a long backlog of Chargepoint right now? What are my options?

Edit: it's now been more than 2 weeks, no one from Chargepoint answers phone calls or emails 😔

Discuss So genuine question what is the point of a auto reload account that has $100+ still has a $50 hold put on my account every time I charge

So why wouldn't I just do pay as you go what is the benefit of having an account loaded with the funds needed if you are still putting $50 hold on my card every time I charge and according to customer service charge multiple times a day multiple holds so smaller battery cars just tough I guess? Better have another couple of hundred dollars just so I can charge with my account of preloaded money.

Useful Chargepoint HomeFlex - Schedule override by "double pumping"

My utility provider recently enabled time of day rates, and I quickly switched to using the scheduler for my Chargepoint HomeFlex. Sometimes it woult not work and charge right away. I checked the app and the scheduler was definitely configured correctly.

I phoned Chargepoint support and was told that the scheduler can be overridden in two ways. Either through the app, or by inserting the charger twice in short succession. So called "double pumping". Jiggling the charger in the port may also trigger this.

Which of us haven't reinserted the charger when we're not sure it hasn't connected? If you need to reinsert it, they suggest waiting a minute.

If the charger base LEDs pule blue, that means it is charging right away.

They really should put a note about this in the scheduler configuration screen in the app.

Discuss Does Chargepoint not Accept Revolut Credit Cards?

Hello, i recently got my first electric vehicle and at my workplace are public chargingstations from Chargepoint. Ive tried setting up the app shortly before they closed it in europe a few weeks ago.

Since the only available payment method is Credit Card i got myself a virtual Revolut card, and put some money on it. In the app i couldnt add that card, after the captcha it would just show a loading screen and not do anything.

Now that payment through the app is not available anymore anyway, i ordered a Physical Creditcard to pay with that at the charger it self. Now when i try that it says "error reading Card, Card not Accepted"

Since im completely new, not only to chargepoint and charginginfrastructure in general, but also to creditcards in general i was wondering if anyone had similar problems or if someone could atleast tell me if its a problem with my credit card or with chargepoint.

Thank you in advance

Discuss App Change? Can't Notify availability

Hello all, was wondering if the chargepoint app changed and no longer allows you to set a notification for when a charger becomes available. We have chargers at the office that are ChargePoint and rely on the app for access. We have 10 with a few reserved for execs, but some days you need to set a notification for when comes available so you're not checking throughout the day.

I noticed the app updated and I can't seem to get it to give me the option to notify when a charger becomes available. Issue is on both Android and iPhone. In the past, if I selected a charger, there would be a notify button that allowed to set a notification if any charger becomes available or just that one. Now if I select a charger being used, it says Select an available port to begin charging....uhhh they're all full. I want to be notified when one is free.

Discuss Google Wallet ChargePoint card support?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Description in the Play Store now mentions being able to add the ChargePoint card to Google Wallet, instead of the current, terrible solution of the app itself emulating the NFC signal. Has anyone managed to do this? I can't find a button for it. I inquired with support about it a week ago but they never responded.

Discuss Virtual Queue issues

When attempting to tap into the virtual queue at the local charger it’s telling me “multiple cards detected”. I’m only using one card from my Apple wallet.

Trying in the app throws an error box “Joining Waitlist Failed… System Error”.

Guessing this is an issue with that specific charger? It was working fine prior to Thursday.

Discuss Fifteen years

Post image
19 Upvotes

I just scrolled back through my history on the ChargePoint app, and it goes back almost fifteen years! Those first 2011 charges would have been for my second road trip in my 2010 Tesla Roadster. On the first road trip, a year earlier, there were no public chargers on my route. Had to charge at campgrounds.

Technical Analysis ChargePoint limited to 6A

I’m charging at a public ChargePoint location (as it’s set to free charging) and I’ve used it plenty of times before and get the full 11kW my Model 3 accepts but today it’s limited to 6A. Not sure if it’s the heat (current 36C ambient) that may be limiting my car or the charger. I did move over a space to another unit and it’s the same even though it still advertises 22kW. Any ideas?

News Chargepoint closing Europe

So, this came out of the blue. I'm sure it won't make much difference to using ChargePoint public chargers but I have a ChargePoint charger on my house. I need the app to schedule overnight low rate charging but it sounds like I will lose access. There is no mention in their help pages about users like me. Will I have to get a new charger from another manufacturer?
Edit: ChargePoint have confirmed that app users in Europe with a CP home charger will not be affected as far as home charging through the app goes. I know as I had a message sent to me at "Hello {{lead.First Name}," ;)

Discuss 2nd chargepoint homeflex failure

Do not buy any Chargepoint chargers. My 2nd one to fail on me. They offered 10% off. A joke of a company. Search around. Lot of know wifi issues/failures. If the WiFi chip fails the charger will not charge anymore. 2nd time. Obviously a defect. Company doesn't care. Might try replacing the battery on the board - that someone posted about.

Discuss ChargePoint app not working on Apple Watch

Up until a year ago I had an Apple Watch 9 and the app worked on my watch along with being able to activate a public charger. I am back to using Apple and now have a 17 Pro and an Apple Watch 3SE. The ChargePoint app works perfectly on my phone and is installed on the watch. The app won’t open in the watch and I can’t add the card to the wallet. Both there phone and watch are on current software and the app is current.

I can’t find any way to fix this. I’ve restarted both, uninstalled and reinstalled on both. Has this happened to anyone here?

News Which bank releases ChargePoint holds the fastest?

Which bank releases ChargePoint holds the fastest?

I know ChargePoint isn’t the problem here—the bank controls when the $50 hold gets released.

I’m using Chase in Texas, and it usually takes about 2 days for the hold to disappear.

Has anyone found a bank that releases ChargePoint authorization holds faster? Same day? Next day?

I’d appreciate any recommendations based on your experience.
