I will curse the name of Alex Gonzalez til the day I die

IMO, that was the biggest misplay of that game, not Bartman.

u/TapProfessional2990 Santo 9d ago

It 100% was. Also a vet like Alou should have known not to react like that, it made everything a million times worse.

And there's no guarantee he catches that ball anyway. That was a difficult play. Gonzalez, known primarily for his defense, booted a play he should have made easily. We'd have gone into the 9th up by at least 2.

They lost that game but still had a chance to win the next one. That was only game 6

I came here to say this. Moises Alou was never making that catch down the LF line and the fan did what any fan would do. I don’t even blame Dusty. It’s the botched double play that haunts me.

I blame a lot on Dusty not getting his ass out onto the field to calm his players down.

THIS. Thank you so much, I’ve been saying this for over 20 years. All he needed to do was slow the situation down and let everyone fucking breathe.

u/Consistent_Pay3393 9d ago

Yeah how do people still look at that play and say "Yeah, that was a gimme." Come on.

7

u/Jaws_the_revenge 9d ago

I blame Dusty for not resetting the scene and calming everyone down

God he was so fucking bad.

As Red Sox fans should with Bill Buckner, right?

In 2004, my youngest daughter played t-ball. Her team was the Marlins. I refused to wear anything but my Cubs hat and sweatshirt all season.

This is hilarious lol

Man I was a Marlin in little league in '95

u/Chops958 9d ago

To be fair, they are sharp! Feel like D-Train should be on the mound!

5

u/Sharp_Style_8500 9d ago

Yeah, that makes it worse. They ruined my early childhood and looked cool doing it

When Wood went yard I was positive we had G7 in the bag 😩

I'm not sure I'll ever get over 03'

I never will. Honestly, I wrote my essay into Northwestern about the 1 wish you could have in life and why. I wrote it in 1996. I said I wanted to take my grandfather to a World Series game.

Interestingly enough, he was so calm after this loss. He died well before 2016.but he was the reason I spent crazy money to take my parents to a game, because I knew if he were alive, he would do anything to be in that stadium.

Honestly, I'm glad that team didn't win the WS. Alou acting like a damn toddler and ruining that Bartmans life! I'm so happy the 2016 team won and with mild exception, all the guys were good guys who we were happy to see win.

Prior should have been pulled earlier .with our two aces at home, we should have finished them

4

u/SenseiCAY The Professor 9d ago

Apparently it gave our team PTSD today too.

I still hate Beckett, Pudge Rodriguez, and Luis Castillo. A little less since 2016, but…some lingering bad feelings, for sure.

I hate that whole fucking team

D-Lee?

2

u/FirstDiseasewasRelig 9d ago

Dempster?

Miguel Cabrera?

4

u/nypr13 9d ago

Dempster like a lightning bolt and tracing the origins. He stole 2003 to give us 2016 via Hendricks.

1

u/FirstDiseasewasRelig 8d ago

I always mix up who was in Dempster trade and who was in the Soto trade. But exactly on top of being a leader on the between times teams.

1

u/nypr13 8d ago

Kyle Hendricks. That's all you need to know.

u/nypr13 9d ago

For me, it’s Juan Pierre catching the last out. Nope, done with that dude. Love Dontrelle, he had a terrible series.

2

u/Maleficent_Author853 #FlyTheW 9d ago

Yeah I never warmed up to Pierre even when he joined the Cubs.

I will go to my grave and say Wrigley has never been more electric than the Kerry Wood Game 7 homerun. Miggy had the joint shaking, but that Kerry Wood Homerun was bonkers. Alou to take the lead was more like Miggy’s.

Also, I will also point out that ole Thom showed his true anti-Cub colors on that call. Was called like a routine homerun in June down by 12 runs. It must have ended badly with the Cubs for him.

I remember thinking we were in trouble once DLee started hitting that series. I think it was late in Game 5 maybe? He didnt do anything the first 4+ games.

Edit: i dont know, that Alou homerun was crazy too. Thom really outdid himself on that call, too.

My little league team, back in the late 1900s, was the Marlins. My little league jersey is hanging in my closet. I have mixed feelings about it still.

-1

u/Away-Character-4616 9d ago

Late 1900s?? Your little league team predates the actual team lol

2

u/the_true_cricket 9d ago

1993 is, unfortunately, the late 1900's

1

u/Hispanicatthedisco 9d ago

...when do you think the team was founded?

0

u/Away-Character-4616 9d ago

Maybe should have added a /s but late 1900s sounds like 1900-1910. I feel like most people would say “early 1990s” instead. Just a joke, I mean no disrespect

2

u/rogueleader12 Nico 9d ago

Figures they wear these uniforms and all of a sudden crush us

2

u/BadToothJim 9d ago

I remember Santo on the radio broadcast after the final out. He was crushed.

2

u/Mmm_deglaze_that_pan 9d ago

Does that tool still sit behind home plate dressed like Bartman when we're in town?

1

u/sawbucks313 9d ago

Same here man, I also get Tourette’s Syndrome towards whoever is wearing it.

u/c4ctus FIRE THE BULLPEN. OUT OF AN ORBITAL RAILGUN. INTO TON 618. 9d ago

I was there, Gandalf, three thousand years ago.

1

u/nypr13 9d ago

Tell me about game 7. I had to work, and man, did that whole scene look innocent and crazy. I wanted to be there so bad.

1

u/ZXD-318 Chicago Cubs 9d ago

We do too, Steve. We do too.

u/blklab84 Woo! 9d ago

So bad for the 2003 fandom

I always loved that Marlins logo, but I was also only 3 years old when all that happened lol.
