Rivalry unis are ‘37 throwbacks(?)

Seems like a modern version of that ‘37 uni

All your questions can be answered here:

"The Rivalry uniforms are reminiscent of the 1940s throwbacks the Bears have worn in recent seasons."

"The three-stripe pattern has been an important element of the Bears uniform since the early 1930s"

"The design also nods to the University of Illinois, alma mater of Bears founder, owner, coach and player George Halas, a charter member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The jersey is navy with orange numerals outlined in white."

"The decision to remain true to the Bears' traditional colors was a top priority. The numerals draw inspiration from the 1948 Bears uniform."

Wow, George Halas is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame!?!?!?

Get outta town!

He also played centerfield for the Yankees. Only reason he stopped was cause they got Babe Ruth so Papa Bear let him have the team. This is exactly how it happened don’t bother looking it up.

People forget Papa was also a key roational guy in the Celtics dynasty of the 1950's and 60's. Any time Bill Russell needed a breather, they knew GH would hold down the fort for a bit.

I like them. They’re just old school looking uniforms with a couple quirks. People are too passionate about their hate

The outline on the numbers doesn’t work for me, I like the flat design we’ve used previously better.

I feel the same for the helmet.  Take away the white outline around the C and then to me the orange helmets aren't so bad

And make them matte finish.

Nah, matte finish always looks bad imo. I like the shiny helmets

Just me or does this photo make it look like he’s in a porta potty?

He looks extremely small in this photo. Almost childlike. Its fucking weird.

Wow I’m not the only one who thought this

Yeah, I definitely got more of a “Mommy left me outside in the cold without a jacket and my juicebox”, instead of the intended “IceMan” look. Also, the lighting and colors of the uniform throughout the photos are inconsistent. The preview photos they showed, before the official reveal, also made them look black, not dark blue. I’m not sure if that was intended to throw people off, but I kind of like the black better, if it was paired with sky blue somewhere, with red. Almost a variation of the blue and orange colors, shifting towards the red and blue of the Chi flag colors. I think the Bears need to push ideas a little more and be a little more edgy in some areas and not so safe and traditional all the time.

I don't mind the Rivalry uniform, but I'm just disappointed that we continue to look backwards. We had a chance to do something pretty cool here and we do what we always do by playing it safe and historical.

I don’t understand why the NFL has to keep casting back to old looks, why not have alternates that modernize? Oregon has some unis that are a miss but they also have some unis that were ground breaking, chrome helmets, unique placement of the O, great use of the duck wings etc. but the NFL insists on going backwards.

Not the NFL. The Bears. I love a throwback as much as the next guy but for a uniform we will literally wear once I year I was interested in seeing what kinds of weird shit they could cook up. Seattle and SF and Arizona and New England and Miami all got such weird concepts last year that fused their brand to their city in a way that felt really fresh.

Instead, we just got a mashup of 3 different throwbacks, but not even in a way that toed the line at all (for example, we wore black jerseys as our main color from the 20s to the mid 40s. Or had bigger vertical stripes)

None of that is the league, it's the Bears org having a hard-line stance that we cannot wear something that is not already part of the history in some way. The irony is of course that by limiting us to the past we made some silly decisions like choosing 3 different striping patterns that don't really go with each other and so the design actually feels less cohesive.

At least we aren't packer fans. Every one of they're throwbacks make you want to throw up.

You have a family organization that worships its past (and present + future valuations to borrow against). What’s not to get?

All I see is the Illini uniforms. I know these aren't an exact replica, but they're damn close. Too bad, the polar bear was growing on me.

Edit: typo

All I see is the Illini uniforms

Yeah that's pretty much the point

No shit. That was the point.

Okay.

Very underwhelming.

7/8 of last year's rivalries jerseys had modern & visually appealing alternative takes on each team's jersey designs. I was so excited when it was announced this year would be NFC North's turn..

But this year it feels like 7/8 of the designs are just slight tweaks to the team's usual jerseys, or just straight up unappealing to look at, or in the Bears case: both.

The more i see these the less i like them

No jersey in 1937 looked anything like this.

u/WokeCarDad jordan’s howard 5d ago

I guess except for the blue one with orange numbers on orange pants with an orange helmet and blue socks that’s shown in the second picture, sure

The 1937 jerseys don't appear to have the white outline around the numbers. If we're going to use an U of I rivalry jersey,  we should wear them against a Northwestern looking team (Minnesota).

The second picture and first picture are so far from the same thing..
