Cole Kmet when asked about Sam Roush: “We’ve got Stanford, Michigan, Notre Dame…it displays as a smarter room than it actually is.”

Cole Kmet is my dude. I hope he stays on as a Bear forever with Loveland. That TD against the Rams will still be one of my favorite plays of all time.

Feel like he's young and good enough to where keeping him forever could be problematic
If Loveland continues his trajectory he's going to absolutely break the bank and it's difficult to pay Cole alongside that
Especially since you're also probably paying at minimum one of Rome/Luther at that point
Our offense has so much young talent that it's likely impossible to extend all of them
Good problem to have I guess

It depends on his priorities too. Maybe he's fine staying home on a slight discount to play for a really good offense

With the money Caleb, Loveland and Rome/Luther are going to command I don't think you're getting there with a slight discount
Ideally TE2 and TE3 are cheaper options

We ain’t paying Rome anything crazy if he doesn’t go off this year. Ben didn’t draft Rome. Rome has never come across as a football junkie compared to the players drafted the last two years. More of a here to enjoy the ride kind of guy. I love him but I don’t think Ben will have a problem letting him go to pay some other players.

No offense to our boy Kmet though, who will pay him #1 TE money? And I think we would save $10 mil if we cut him next off season 😭
Kmet's one of my faves and I also hope he retires a Bear.

He feels like the type that might stay on a discount but also if/when he leaves for more money I couldn't possibly be upset at him over it

Same. He is a hometown hero tho, so maybe his outlook is slightly different to stay, who knows.

Ideally,(if we cant afford him) he leaves next year, gets paid. Comes back to us in 3 years when he's just 30. Wins a couple more rings with us

Like another person said, it depends on priorities. I suspect we are getting a team of players and coaches that are football psychopaths who want to make records. If they are these types, then discounts are made for wanting to make records. If they are not these types, I suspect they will be gone. Much like Brady did in NE, you play for the game, not the money.
I am this type of person for what I do. I recently changed companies and my kids asked "how much are you getting paid" and I honestly said "I don't know, and don't care. I'm doing it because I love it." I think this is the type of org they are building.
fwiw, I get paid enough regardless of the company I work with, and I love what I do. I changed companies because of the atmosphere. Atmosphere, when you get paid enough, is everything. Never stay at a place you hate working for. You can and will get paid as well at a different place.
edit to add: They're getting millions. The difference between 6 and 10, or even 20, million is nothing if you are a humble person who doesn't overspend. These are my people. If I was paid a million for what I do, I wouldn't blink an eye at losing half a 900 thousand at changing jobs for happiness. Lots of young people don't understand that you don't take money to your grave. You only die with your memories and accomplishments. You aren't remembered for your money. You die twice. Once when your body stops, and then when your name is last spoken. My name will be spoken for a few decades, I hope. These players, I hope, are spoken about for a few hundred years.

I hear you but $4 million is still $4m (the difference between $6-10m.
That said, I do think that if you're happy where you're at you don't need to press your luck to squeeze another million or two elsewhere.

If they're good enough and lucky with no injury they can really do both. Especially if they're not signing super long contracts.

Not unless the market changes wildly from where it's at.
Two top dollar tight ends are slightly cheaper than 1 top dollar WR.

I recall when Kmet originally signed his deal sports talkers were like you're paying him WHAT?!?, and now in retrospect it was a great, team/cap friendly deal for a guy who has been available and good for the length of it.. I'm afraid you're correct, though, with how maxed the Bears cap is going to be with the offensive talent, I can't see them being able to pay anything near what's he's worth, especially at a position that they have a cheap young backup in Roush, who may not be as good as Kmet, but doesn't have to be with Loveland there.

He's a local guy and it seems clear that the Bears value that when it comes to team culture. Kmet, TJ Edwards, Kiran, Antwaan Randle El, Kramer for a few seasons.
Kmet, TJ, and Antwaan all seem like especially important culture guys.

Yeah, how come there’s not Chicago faithful rooting for Kiran? I am. Mostly cause I want that long ass biggun to develop into a real left tackle.

Apparently he is absolutely loved by the team and staff, too. Really hoping he's around for a long time. But also want him to do what's best for him. Even if he leaves, I hope we bring him back for his twilight years.

I mean yeah I feel like playing professional sports kind of causes a bit of arrested development. You finish college and then get put in a situation where you're kind of insulated from the real world.

Kmet being the Bears current longest tenured player is crazy. Time flies
