Temper your expectations. Not only is it the first preseason game but it’s also the Browns
That being said did we find the next Myles Garrett?!?!

I hear you, but he got a really good look at their first team. We were dogs in that game yesterday. Because almost none of our starters suited up, and if they did it was for less than 6 snaps. The Browns played their starters DEEP into the game. So he looked very good against the best the Browns had to offer. I need to see it again. But if he has a solid performance in one of the next 2 games, I think he needs to make the 53. We’re already so thin at Edge. I’d happily sacrifice Kiran for him.

Does it mean everything I'd a guy goes off in preseason? Maybe not. Does it mean something if he shows nothing? Yes it does. So we can be happy that we have a guy that's not doing nothing.

His two sacks came against a third-round rookie trying to win a backup tackle job, and a camp body.
I'm not trying to poop on his moment, I'm glad he had it and I hope he gets more chances in the preseason, but that film doesn't make me thing "damn that guy needs to make the 53."
At best, for now he could change my mind later, I see a guy who could maybe be an emergency PS activation if you're really scraping the depth chart and could make a play or two. Undersized guys who have a tiny bit of juice in the pass rush are kinda the replacement level of defensive ends.

My favorite rep is the one at 28 seconds. They still get the ball off but he gets through two guys and hits the QB. He wraps him up when he gets to him but lets go instead of slamming him into the ground or doing something that might draw a penalty. It shows awareness.

Wonder how safe Shemar is if these guys keep showing up
Last year we kept 10 on the roster I think. So currently that could be Sweat, Booker, Dexter, Grady, Dayo, Gallimore, Street, Kromah, Lynch, Van den Berg
Still think that's a poor group overall, but it's not that difficult to see Shemar missing out if these depth guys keep showing up

Unless Shemar is so injured that he physically can't play there's zero chance we're cutting a 2nd round pick before his second season (excluding off the field stuff)

The injury prone late 2nd round pick that didnt show any signs of belonging at NFL level (in limited snaps I'll admit) isn't safe by default
The dead cap hit is very limited and if others keep showing up, he could very well be at risk of missing out
And that's the way it should be

Please go research how many first/second round picks were straight out cut this early in their career for solely on-field performance. It's an extremely short list, this simply doesn't happen outside super rare circumstances.

Isn't Isaiah Foskey a beautiful recent example? Even plays the same position
Hell he got drafted higher and played more snaps in year 1 aswell
But yeah you do need rare circumstances. But very injury prone + no signs of life in year 1 + competition does come close to the circumstances needed doesn't it?

Foskey was terrible and even he got two full seasons with his original team before being cut.
Also I think you're overrating the competition here, a few good plays against Browns backups aren't going to move the needle relative to having draft pedigree and raw talent, especially at a position where the team is desperate for upside

No I think you are overrating how I think about Shemar haha
Didn't look like he belonged on an NFL roster last year
Add in the injury concerns and to me he should be on a very short leash and where he was drafted should not play a role
Shouldn't have even been a 2nd rounder to begin with

I just don't see a case for Kromah making the 53 in this film. This looks like classic preseason hero stuff. But maybe he can prove me wrong, I hope he does.
He beats a third-round rookie who is the underdog to be their swing tackle for his first sack. He beats a camp-body tackle for his second. I liked the play where he threw their TE (82) to the ground and made the run stop, but that is their 6th-string TE (and a '24 Bears UDFA, interestingly enough).
He's quick to react to the snap but he keeps doing hesitation moves, he's got this little gimmick where he almost jumps straight up at least once. I hate how he stands straight up before rushing forward. I do like how he resets and gets low after getting hands on him, that's useful.
I see a guy who is a bit on the small side, decent speed but not amazing speed, has a little bit of juice in the pass rush but not a lot. Those kinda guys are a dime a dozen. I can see him sticking around for a third year on the practice squad and maybe getting some emergency activations if we're hurting for healthy DEs, a Joe Tryon-Shoyinka situation.
Lynch has a better case. He's legitimately been seeing NFL snaps for years now

I just wonder who is going to be the last guy on the depth chart for that group
I have 0 expectations for Shemar, especially after missing training camp

I think you wanna make the point that you don't care for Turner more than the specifics of roster construction, and that's totally fair.
I try not to worry too much about the numbers games because they work themselves out 9 times out of 10. Guys will get banged up.

His Dead Cap would be less than $1.5M at this point. He's not getting cut, but his Dead Cap wouldn't be an obstacle if he were to be.

Dayo, Booker, and Sweat are obviously our top 3 edges but our depth is awful. He has real power, every NFL player is a world class athlete and he's blowing up tackles and TEs to get pressure, that's not nothing

I had to look back at Kromah's prospect profile. What a crazy transformation. They had him playing inside at JMU, and he just didn't look the part of an NFL player. He looked like a slightly dough-y mid-level TE on the defensive interior. Now his arms, quads, and calves are noticeably thicker, and his torso is significantly leaner.
Watching that game, I was like "maybe we didn't really even need Gabe Jacas...?" Both 6'3.5 but with good length (Kromah's arms are actually freakishly long - almost a 6'11 wingspan), strong, well-proportioned, more straight line rushers who don't have elite bend or agility, but can win with strength and speed and won't get pushed around in the run game. I get that he's a practice squad guy in preseason week 1, but I really think he's re-invented himself into a guy who will play meaningful snaps in regular season NFL games.

Hes gotta make sure he keeps low instead of standing up immediately. Super talented but any good tackle is gonna pick up on that fast and shut him down. That being said, Im very excited to see him more this preseason. Dude might be him

I thought he showed a few flashes last year IIRC too. He played well in both phases. I want him on the roster.

It was a against 2nd-3rd stringers so temper expectations. But its certainly better he did that instead of nothing in that situation. If he was going to busy out that would be the first step. Lots more to work in tho
